Due to the current construction works going on at Malaga - Car Parking short term is a problem. Expect delays at peak periods of the day when trying to drop off and pick up passengers. The lower level car park is now rental return cars - (the space that is available in between construction). The upper level at departures had q's. I experienced a 15 minute delay in getting in - and just by chance found a spot. In typical fashion, the car park close to T1 was not full, but the airport authorities had decided to claim that it was - and had barriers across the enterences. This is just the begining and will get no doubt progressively worse as summer rolls in. Over 730 Million Euros are being invested in Malaga. The terminal will get a revamp. The aircraft stands and aprons are being extended. A 2nd runway awaits planning construction/approval. All is expected to be completed by 2010.

                Hi Nivsy
I am quite used to Malaga airport but at Easter i will have to go to pick my partner up as he is flying out later than me. I am fairly worried after reading your post as i am not too sure were to go - when going back to malaga airport i just usually head for the rent a car drop off!! Will parking be easy to find and please can you advise as to what signs to follow.
Many thanks

The current problem is with the normal short term car park - the one opposite the arrivals and departure areas of Terminal 2. Due to the reduction in size, and especially during peak periods it can be difficult to get immediate access into the car park. Enterance into the short term is only from the departure level....and not from arrival level. Should it prove to be impossible to enter the car park - go down the ramp from the departure area o the left hand side - basicalkly opposite the Terminal 1. I would hope that by Easter the airport authority would have sorted something out - altho' i will coninue to check. My advice (currently) would be to allow enough time to park before picking up/droppin off passengers. Will up date at a later date. Hope it helps.

Today was pretty caotic at Malaga. Long q's of cars 11am all jostling (in typical Spanish fashion) to get to the short term term car park or departure area drop off zone up the ramp. The police/security were quite frankly useless - blowing whistles and waving arms around. This is going to prove to be a nightmare for departing passengers arriving by car. Allow yourself lots of time. The airport authorities have really made a mess of this - without any obvious contingency plans visible at the moment - and will only get worse as traffic and passengers increase as the weeks go by. Ho hum.

Just as an up-date.....caos still reigns as development continues at Malaga Airport. Sunday mornings are really the worst and last Sunday morning the q's for people and their cars trying to park in the short term car park were long.
Due to all the work in progress a lot of dust is being generated and many diggers and lorries scoot around the access roads. Further, confusion is apparant as the signs on a temp nature do not help much. If driving to drop off/pick up in the coming weeks as pax increases do always allow yourself plenty of time. Looks like its gonna be a caotic summer here!

                Hi Nivsy
Thanks for the update. If i drove into the rent a car section and waited there for my partner - do you think i would get in to trouble or is this a definite no no!!!!!!
Thanks again

Getting into the "hire car drop off" zone is not a problem - however I really dont know how you get out! There is most likely a barrier at the exit and its possible you need a card or security code to then exit. Best bet i think is to try and park in the T1 car park.....it appears to have less q's and more spaces as the majority are all going to T2 arrivals. Its on really a 4 or 5 mins walk then to the arrivals area for T2

Latest news...development and caos goes on. Q's to enter complex were as bad as I have ever seen over the weekend...around 25 minutes Sunday morning to get from motorway spur road to terminal area.
