Just a little memo. Please remember that if you buy carpets or other expensive items, you are quite likely to be stopped as you happily make your way through the green channel at customs. We felt so very sorry for an elderly couple who were asked to "step over here please?" as they arrived at Gatwick on Friday. To the customs officers, the two beautifully wrapped parcels were obviously carpets and the couple were so shocked.
I could suggest that you are better off putting your carpet in your suitcase and carrying your clothes, but obviously can't as this would be illegal! Jenny
During my visit to Tunisia I have to say, I've heard quite a bit of technical rubbish spouted from tourist guides who are trying to persuade their punters to not buy in the local market but to wait to they get their preferred carpet shop (since they are most likely on commission themselves).
Yes, the carpets are very beautiful and lovely quality, but they are unlikely to be hand made as it is often implied - just be aware that's all.
