I have never been to Lindos. I know that accomodation is basic and have read all available reviews. I have narrowed it down to
1) Lambis (first choice - one with pool)
2) Avra apartments by the beach
3) Afrodite (Olympic)
Obviously one is at the top one the very bottom - has any one else stayed at Avra (there are two reviews i have read which were ok) but any other accounts would really help. I fancy this one because it is by the beach but heard its very basic.
Lambis with the pool is outside the village at the top of the steep hill from the village square. A free bus runs up this hill during the day but it is a bit of a walk after a night out although a taxi will only be a few euro.
We have never stayed at Avra studios.
We have stayed at the Afrodite they were decent accommodation but there is a bar right behind them which when we stayed there meant that some nights you had to sleep with earplugs in.
Manos do both the Andonis (stayed there last year) which has a breathtaking view across the bay and the Zambetta. These are at the school end of the village but are quiet at night and only two minutes from the shops and bars, neither have air conditioning as is the case of most package accommodation unless you pay extra on arrival. Recommend hiring a fan, vital for a good nights sleep in high season.
Depending how many of you are going, when and where from have you considered a DIY holiday. We have done a few always worked out cheaper and the accommodation has been of a better quality then on the packages. Depending when you go you can pick up a studio for 2 from 35euro per night. This year we have an apartment for 4 with aircon and a TV (wont be needed) for 65euro a night in August. Accommodation details can be found at INVALID URL http://www.lindosuntours.gr and http://www.lindianet.gr (we have stayed in the Eugenia studio it was spotless, well equipped and air conditioned). You can contact accommodation owners direct and we have always found them honest, reliable and easy to deal with
and a balcony just for us. The terrace could be used by everybody there, but as they had their tables & chairs downstairs, they never bothered coming up. The studio's were basic but OK. We were out and about a lot anyway and the few nights we spent there we enjoyed our private balcony and terrace.
It was fairly quiet as well. If the wind was our way we could hear some music, but no way loud enough to keep us awake.
view from George Studio's
As is was situated at the top of the village it was not easy to get to the shops, bars etc. We were able to take a short cut, but it was quite steep, and it made us think twice if we really did not forget anything from the supermarket... as climbing up once or twice a day in the heath was really enough! Still I would go back again. Unfortunately the top studio was already gone this year, so we have chosen a different one altogether now.
path downhill from George Studio's
I hope this picture will give you an idea.. of the path that goes from George Studio's to the streets down the hill. It was not that bad really.. only in the heath of the day it could be if you fotgot something from your room and had to go up again to get it

We have been to George Studio's at the top of the village in 2001 (does not seem that long ago though) and had a really good time. We were lucky as we had the one studio that is on the first floor. All the others (I believe 3) are on the ground floor. It meant that we had a huge terrace It was fairly quiet as well. If the wind was our way we could hear some music, but no way loud enough to keep us awake.

Lambis is the best accommodation but it is up on Krana Hill so a long way out of the village. To be honest i prefer to stay in the village itself but if you want a pool and modern accommodation you have to opt for the Krana Hill area. As the previous post says, during the day there's a free bus to take you up and down the hill to the Main Square/Main beach.
Aphrodite is very old fashioned and basic. My friend stayed there a couple of years back and called it her 1970s sweat box! That said if you get it at the right price (she only paid £150!!) then it's quite a central location.
I've not stayed at Avra but our rep arranged a room for us there on our departure day (as our room was booked and we had a late night return). I'd say the rooms weren't bad really, certainly better than Aphrodite. The room we had was split level and quite pleasant inside - down a couple of steps to a kitchenette and table with the shower room off and upstairs to a small galleried bedroom.
I always use Marianthi with First Choice (Sunstart brochure) when i can as the rooms are better than most we've had in Lindos, it's a short walk to either the beach or the centre and the rooftop terrace has the most amazing views.
Wherever you choose i'm sure you'll have a great time - no doubt you'll be out enjoying Lindos so much you'll hardly see your accommodation

Funny you should mention that accommodation.
Last year our aunt and uncle who came over for our wedding stayed there. Tbh, I'm a bit of a scenery man and love having a drink to a lovely view, I even like that more than going out to a pub.
They bought a fish and chips and had some drink and where based here. The view is stunning of the whole village and you can see the Acropolis and parts of the med.
When we return to Rhodes in the next few years (once our baby is a bit older) we plan to stay here.
As you said the courtyard is shared, but unless you got a rowdy crowd then it would be a fabulous place to stay. Also an added bonus is the very short distance to get to and from your apartment to the reception. Although getting to the beach or the bottom of the village could be a bit of a hike.
FD
True, they are very close to the reception. Another good thing as well is that if you would hire a car you can park almost in front of the studio complex. That is unusual as well for Lindos.
last one then..before you all think I work for Kosmar
Yep, does show how good the view is.
Yep, I forgot to mention about the parking. We had hired a car and that proved an excellent place to park.

Thanks for the input dudes - very helpful. It is really hard to make your mind up. I had heard the first floor rooms at Avra had views of the Acropolis. Any way if anyone reading this post has stayed at Avra (through Olympic) the one near the beach, please let us know what you thought.
It is a renovated captains house, entered through a set of heavy wooden doors, so familiar to those type of homes. You step into a delightful courtyard with a typical Lindian floor of pebbles in patterns. To your left is the well equipped, large kitchen, complete with a full size cooker, fridge/freezer, toaster, table and chairs and the bathroom. On the right are two bedrooms, one with two single Lindian platform beds and the other with two single beds. Both are decent size rooms with more than adequate wardrobe and cupboard space.
Ahead, past the outside table and chairs and small garden is the main room. This is absolutely huge with the enormously high ceilings that characterise these places. There are three single beds in this room, plus a full size dining table and chairs, a chaise long and an enormous old wardrobe and cupboards, plus other bits and pieces. All of this is swamped by the sheer size of the room!
Towels were changed every day, sheets every two days and the whole place was kept spotlessly clean by the ever smiling cleaning ladies.
AC is available but we didn't bother as to be honest it wasn't that hot. I think we managed 25/26C once or twice during the fortnight and it was cool in the evenings.
It's set on the hill about five minutes walk from the drop off point on the main road. It is a quiet area. 15 minutes walk to the main beach and about 10 minutes to St Paul's Bay. Walks are timed on the basis of two children in tow with all the paraphernalia that needs to be carried! When sitting at the outside table one had a view of the Acropolis over the front door.
For the four of us, in this seven person villa we paid just over £800 including flights. We did book well in advance and so managed to get the full early booking discount that Manos offers.
Looking forward to staying there again at some stage in the future.
