we went SC to Los Cristianos in December for a really cheap price, however we spent so much money on eating out, beer, ice creams etc for the kids that it really was a false economy and would probably have worked out better if we had gone AI. We have found ( and i think we have been lucky) some really good AI places for reasonable prices. As a family, we prefer to go AI, but our needs may change as the kids get older and flee the nest leaving just myself and Rob to please ourselves.
We work hard all year and i think on a holiday, it is nice to not have to do a thing unless you want to so AI suits us to a T.
thats what i think seeds...for just a little extra you can go A.I...because to me self catering doesnt mean i would be cooking anyway so wouldnt need the facilities.Although we go A.I. we still eat out a bit and go to a few bars...if the kids let us leave the hotel that is!!they always make friends and want to stay where there friends are..lol
last year we only paid 1600 and spent about 1500 for ten nights, this time we are going for 2 weeks for 2800, the plus side is no nagging kids can i have all the time they can get what they want
if you want an all inclusive for kids between 12 and 16 then book the club hemera at side turket through thomas cook. we did it this year and got my 16 year old as a free child place. we have not been yet buta friend went and said it was fantastic. the reviews look good to.
Just done 2wks A.I at Barcelo las Margaritas, PDI, Gran Canaria. Put on a stone the food was sooooooo good!!
Have just returned from RIU Chiclana at Costa de luz. Lovely hotel and more food and drinks you could ever manage to consume, although we had a good try. Probably just a little busy for us might be better early or later in the season as we like things just a little quieter as the children have now grown up. Must be the best beach that we have ever been on in all of the 23 years we have been going abroad and hotel sits right on it.
I'm about to book our 2nd AI holiday. I personally wouldn't go SC or HB again. We have 2 children, our eldest being classed as a adult and for our last 2 holidays I have booked a room for 3 and a single room and each time we have ended up with 2 double rooms! This works out a lot cheaper. Each time I have e-mailed the Hotel just to make sure we get the rooms next to each other, in fact on our last holiday the hotel didn't even have any single rooms! I presume they just release a few for single occupancy - bear in mind I do always book early.
just to keep this thread going, we have done some 12 - 15 A.I. hols and personally think that they are unbeatable for v.f.m.
we are taking the rest of our family ( both sets of parents, rob sister, husband and their kids) away in November to GC. We are going AI ( as me and Rob usually do) and for my parents it will be their first ever AI holiday as they generally go SC.. we have told them about the virtues of AI for long enough and they are finally giving it a try. I reckon once you have done AI in a decent place you will never go back to SC...
We have been doing All Inclusive for a few years now, and I think it is the best thing we ever did. During our All Inclusive there is the usual breakfast (lots of choice), later, we have a few drinks through the day, then down to lunch (drinks with lunch if you feel like it). Obviously sunbathing throughout. Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) is always availabe through the day depending on the hours "AI" is available. We don't go out to "get our money's worth" it is just what me and my hubby do on holiday, without having to dig into our pockets every time we would like a drink. We enjoy our food and our drink on holiday and if you are lucky there is normally good entertainment in these AI hotels as they prefer to keep you at their hotel. Just enjoy - we certainly do.
