hi we've been to cambrils park and the bungalows are great, as is the park itself. the pool is huge, there is actually two pools. i've written a small review on it, on this site for cambrils park. salou is ideal for families, with portaventura theme park(universal studios) and two or three waterparks. i've been to blackpool loads of times and this will be my fourth time in salou and my opinion is, totally different from blackpool. if you go, enjoy your holiday
We have been to salou 3 times, it will be 4 times on the 27th may, because we are going again. We haven't stayed in a holiday park, we stay in hotels, but I can assure you Salou is nothing like Blackpool.Like the previous report said, the theme park is fantastic for kids and adults, so is the water park. In all the times we have been there , we have not seen any trouble with lager louts and we have been in July before ,which is high season. The last time we were in Blackpool, the rubbish bins were overflowing , never seen that in Salou. There's no piers, just a nice long promenade with palm trees and seats. There's no arcades all over the place with blaring music coming out of them, only nice cafes .The beach is lovely with no tide coming in to stop you getting on it any time of the day . I would ignore people that tell you this, because most of them wont have even been there. Just go and enjoy yourselves.
Have you seen the resort reports
No it isnt like BLackpool away from the tourist bit. Your staying in Cambrials and the old town of Salou is fantastic, the walk from Cambrials upto the marina is lovely and there are loads of traditional spanish tapas bars around there.
Port Aventura is great for a change of pace and the beaches are great, we are going back again this year and we hate Blackpool!!
Rob
Cambrils is a hell of a lot quieter than Salou, less hectic.
Even if you decided to stay at the Sanguli campsite that is in Salou it is not right in the thick of it.
The main beach at Salou is lovely, really child friendly too.
When are you thinking of going?
I always go mid may and its mostly full of families.
Port Aventura is on the doorstep, its brilliant for kids (and adults )
Loulou
have you been to Salou north east?
have you been to Salou north east?
I was there last year and didn't rate the place at all we stayed in cap salou which was ok but its a place i dont think i would ever visit again.
But i do like Spain i have been to the Costa brava and benidorm and enjoyed my self there but i thought the people in salou were not as Friendly as the other places i have been to also found it dirty in lots of parts(that my opinion).
not trying to put any one off from going there but we did have a bad experience there and will most certainly not be returning.
i found Salou ok but having said that we went to Benalmadena (costa del sol)last year and we thought it was a dirty place were as others said it was nice.
Considering the amount of ill mannered tourists who use the resorts as a dumping ground, I think the Spanish do suprisingly well.
I'd like to see our resorts cope with such an influx of bad mannered tourists.
No the cleanliness of Salou is not perfect but its not for the want of trying!
To be fair the amount of Spanish I see just dropping empty fag boxes on the floor is amazing!
Stayed in Salou last October during the rally of Catalunya, we were right next to Port Aventura at the Salauris Palace and it wasn't a bit like Blackpool. No yobs, lovely areas to walk in with no pestering by time share touts, some good shopping AND sunshine
Thanx to everyone for their help about Salou, but just as I was nearly convinced I read somewhere on this site a guy describing Salou as full of chav families or the over 80's? That sounds def off putting. Is it really full of chavs? Can anyone advise? Thanx
I do not know what the campsites are like Twinkletoes but as for Cap Salou and Salou i did not see much in the way of chavs.
As we use budget air lines from Liverpool and book our own accomodation online we decide to go south from Barcelona instead of north as we had previously done and booked an apartment in Salou, mainly to be near Portaventura which had been recommended to us by several people. We have been hooked ever since and next week we are going for our 3rd visit.
To say it is like Blackpool is very unfair. Ok parts of the town are slightly run down and could do with a lick of paint here and there but doesn`t everywhere these days. There are a lot of British and Irish bars but many people look for a home away from home and as long as they are clean, friendlyand cater for amilies etc I don`t see the problem myself. I found the resort to be very clean in the most part, the locals friendly and the transport links to the theme park, neighbouring resorts and Barcelona to be excellent.
I would like to recommend the Danny Boy bar as an excellent night out. OK the drinks are slightly more expensive than some other bars but the entertainment and friendly staff more than make up for it as does the food. I also can tip The Red Lion, Christies and Chaplins (although I would not advise families with young kids to visit tha latter as it is definately for the teenager) as worth a visit. For food other than Danny Boy try the Vines, The Cottage, Rio Grande and the Texas Embassy. For those of you who like Chinese Food there is a excellent all you can eat buffet at the Hong Kong restuarant for 8 euros a head.
The main beach, and I admit to not being a beach person myself (I prefer to sit around the pool) is very clean if a little overcrowded but there is another large beach on the far side of the marina which is not as busy and also two coves which are far quieter.
Portadventua is a great day out (or several days) out for all the family. The rides are fanastic especially the Dragon Kahn, Stampida and El Diablo. I also recommend the Sea Oddessy (a submarine simulator) and The Temple of Fire which is a kind of Indiana Jones type show. Both are well worth a visit esepcially the Temple of Fire if you have just been on one of the water rides. You will dry off quite quickly in there believe me.. The shows too are very good especially the Wild West shunt show and the Polynesian dance show. The food is not too expensive certainly not when compared to prices in British theme parks. I really would however suggest that if you are travelling after July 1st that you try to get to the park during the evening (its open until midnight from that date onwards) firstly because the park is less crowded then (as most of the day trippers from the nearby Spanish towns have departed0 making it easier to get on the rides etc and also because obviously it is much cooler for walking around (I will warn people that a visit to the park does involve a lot of walking. Make sure you are wearing comfortabe shoes). My only gripe, and unfortunately it is a big one and something that many people have commented about in conversation, is the bahavior, or lack of it, by the Spanish teenagers. They tend to arrive in school or club trips sometimes as many as 50 strong and show no respect whatsoever for other vistors to the park. They are extremely loud (they scream at the slighest thing and it can be eardrum bursting at times)and rude and act as if they own the place. They jump the queues for the rides, drop litter everywhere, think nothing of running into people and generally behave very badly. I have even seen some of them (many of them girls) spitting at people below them whilst standing on a bridge going over one of the water rides and I don`t mean one or two, there was as many as 20 doing it. There is security in the park but they tend to turn a blind eye to all this. I wonder what would happen if a gang of say 20 British, German or Dutch teenagers carried on in this fashion? But don`t let that put you off going. Most of the spanish kids are there at the weekend especially fridays for some reason. The rest of the week although they are there it is not in the huge numbers that visit at the weekend.
Thank you so much Oxton swa for that very informative review of Salou, loads of info there cheers. We will probably be visiting in late May early June of next year so hopefully it will be a bit quieter then. Does anyone know what the weather will be like in this area around then? I mean is it usually predictably warm, hot or possibly rainy? Thanks again
If you go to the first post in the dedicated Weather Topic, you'll find you can access historical weather information

We have just come back from Salou this weekend and the weather was hot except for one wet evening and one wet morning. It rained tuesday night and wednesday morning , but then the sun got out in the afternoon. We had another good holiday at the Delfin Park hotel and enjoyed oursleves each evening in the Xamos Bar,which is just across the square from the hotel. Antonio who owns the bar is a right laugh and a really nice guy who remembers people from other years and treats them like long lost friends. We didn't go back for 3 years and yet he remembered us and even remembered what we drank, but we have been the last 3 years on the trot. Ramon the waiter is also a good laugh too, he used to be shy, but working with Antonio has rubbed off on him There is usually a guy who plays keyboard, guitar and sings on in the bar , who is usually helped out by the very mixed crowd of people who get in there. Dutch, German ,Spanish, Irish, Scots, English, Italians were just a few of the nationalities we encountered , all very friendly and all out to have a good night and all singing along to the music in their own language. A good time was had by all
