I've never heard of an excursion but it is very easy to do yourself. You can get a bus to Adeje and walk up the very steep hill to Otello's restaurant and the start of the walk. I believe that there is a small charge for the walk during the week now although I think that Sunday's are free. They also limit the number of visitors each day but I'm not sure what the limit is. This has been introduced fairly recently as I have done this walk a few times and never had to pay. The walk isn't difficult and takes around an hour and a half each way. You can't get lost, there is only one way in and out.

Here's a 360-degree panorama of the view from the viewing platform, taken in March 2006: http://www.bamber.com/webcam/tenerife/barracho/

It is a QTVR (quicktime) so your browser may ask for permission to show it.

I walked there from Adeje main square - just keep walking upwards!

I was erring on the side of caution because I walk a lot, I think it actually took me around an hour and a quarter each way. That is purely walking time only however, it doesn't include stops for breaks etc. The walk is not difficult and is only around 5 kilometres in distance. I have in the past climbed Teide  , now that did take a bit longer!
