Agreed - they might be Catalan but if you don't speak Spanish it's not worth trying to be too clever. Also they have a version of Catalan called Menorquín! There are a few simple phrases you can use such as "per favor" instead of "Por favor" and "Bon dia" instead of "Buenos dias".
