Got back yesterday from Tossa, had the most fantastic weather, clear skies and hot sun everyday! (oh sorry, rained the first night, but was clear by 7 the next morning) Tossa was just as beautiful as I remembered from last year but very busy, night times were great as everything seems to kick off at around 9 O'clock and we just walked round and enjoyed the atmosphere stopping for a quick drink occasionally
Had a few problems with the coach journey, last year we had a great coach with all the facilities we needed but this year it was a very basic old coach and not too nice to travel on, the good thing being that my husband who is scared to death of flying says that rather than face that again next year he will give flying a go
hi Jane glad you enjoyed your holiday in tossa, i go next tues and watch the webcam everyday, it's been down since friday, i just hope the weather is okay, should have gone when you did but hubby had to change dates at work so hoping we get some good days, we went same time last year and it was great thunderstorms at night but red hot in the day, think that was just a fluke though, keeping fingers crossed, did you find any nice bars to chill at night that you can recommend
Hi Rosie, I do envy you going to Tossa next week, I would go back tomorrow if I could. We were full board at our Hotel (Don Juan) so can only recommend the bars for drinks etc. we liked Bar Elsa and Coco's that were close to our hotel and Bar Berlin which was closer to Villa Vella and the terrace bar at Hotel Diana was 'buzzing' at night, also my daughter visited a bar called Time and Place where the owner was British and said that the measures of vodka were quite generous! I would recommend a trip on the glass bottomed boat if you havn't done it before, the highlight for me was the man feeding the fish in one of the caves, the little land train is also good, takes you around all the different hotels (Bahia Tossa looks very nice) and to the top end of town where there are some villas. The weather looks as if it might be brightening up for you for next week, I was worried before we went as there were a lot of storms and rain forecast but it was gorgeous when we were there, a bit too hot for my little grand-daughter though we had to keep her out of it most of the time, it was well over 30c every day. Hope you enjoy your holiday
Only 10 days until we fly to Tossa, I am counting the days. I wanted to ask if you had any trouble with mosquitos, I haven't been away in september before but i do know that after it rains they start biting, especially me !! I have bought the usual stuff but they still seem to have a go. Like Rosie I am hoping the weather will be ok, warm enough for me to sit outside with a drink and do my favourite thing "people watch"
I wish I was back there now!
There are a few nice restaurants too. I recommend you get a guide to the Costa Brava as there are always some good restaurant recommendations in them. I had a grilled lobster at a restaurant called.......can't remember!!!! Which a was gorgeous (only 18euro's!), when I remember I'll let you know. Doh!
I have the Lonely Planet guide to Catalunya and the Costa Brava which was useful. Some of the restaurants they recommend are more expensive than others and the ones next to the beach are more expensive.
La Cuina de Can Simon seems a nice place (it has a michelin star!) It is quite expensive, and I'd have liked to have gone, but Dave didn't fancy anything on the menu. It's recommended in the guide.
Restaurant Bahia (Passeig de Mar) is recommended, and it's a nice place.
Restaurant Marina is also a great place to eat. As is restaurant Berlin. We also went to Barcelona for a day. We've been there twice before and adore the place.
I'm sure you'll have a great time Rosie and Eagle.
I didn't have a bad time with the mozzies Eagle.
I like the big boat too G_Q_B we went on it last year but couldnt agree where to go this year so missed out on it.
On the beach by the Gran Reymar hotel (called Mar Menuda?) there is a rock which has a cross in it and underneath there is a brass plate with the name San Ramon, then in that lovely church in the town centre there is a large painting showing a man being helped by someone and it shows the rock, does anyone know the story? I love that church its so gothic but why is the piped music so scary??
Eagle, buy some garlic tablets and take 1 each day from now until you come back, that should keep the little bleeders away.
im going to tossa in august i AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IT AFTER READING YOUR POSTS
Have a great time, Pat.
