Hi everyone,

Just booked a two week cruise on OV for November. Grateful for any tips on the best excursions to do or to avoid. Also we have been given on board credit - anybody had problems getting this while on board?

Will the entertainment have changed from the Med cruise? is the entertaiment any good at the moment?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

We went on OV for a 14 night Caribbean Cruise (Feb 04). Thouroughly enjoyed it and have been toying with the idea of going again next year. What I would like to know is there anyone that has been on the OV twice and what did you think second time around? I have heard that the "casual approach" which appealed to us on our first visit, is being abused by certain guests, who think they can wander into evening dinner, almost wearing swimwear. Whilst I did not want to wear diamonds and tiara's, most guests did seem to make the effort to be at least smart casual, on our cruise.
What I guess I am asking, is how are the other guests, I would not want to go again if the standard has become 18-30 club??? Hope you get the gist of what I am saying.
Your experiences please!!!

PLEASE PLEASE read ALL the comments and dont be put off by one bad report... :D :D

Hi Xray

How many cruises have you been on. I only have this one cruise so have nothing to compare it too! Also what age are you? We are in our forties but hang out with groups of all ages.

What did you particularly enjoy about OV. I particularly liked the daytimes, all the different Caribbean Islands were the highlights of my holiday.

I thought the tribute acts and the all too short comedian acts, were great. I thought the onboard entertainers a bit lacking......but I would still go again....as long as standards have not slipped.

I am sure I read somewhere that, cleanliness was a bit iffy! When we were on board the ship was spotless.

Thanks for your response

Hi
We are booked on an Ocean Village Carribean cruise for 14th Nov. We have recieved our Action Ashore brochure and are totally confused as to what to do where. Has anyone been on any of the Action Ashore trips and if do which ones do you recommend, for both enjoyment and value for money. I am in my late 20's, other half is in mid 30's - so want lively, fun activities. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :D

Hi, going on OV next week and wondered if anyone has recently returned from Caribbean crossing. Just wondered what the entertainment was like and what is showing in the cinema (sad I know but it's the only time my husband takes me to the pictures!!)

thanks, Pauline

Hi all,

could anyone that has been on an Ocean Village cruise please help me with some questions i have. I am thinking of cruising the caribbean with them in january/february and would love some advice.

1) Is there a dress code? are there any formal evenings? i don't particularly want a load of yobs in shorts and nothing else getting loud and annoying in the restaurant. however i dont want it to be as formal as p&o or cunard.

2) What is the food like? How much choice is there? are there afternoon snacks and snacks available through the day? what are typical examples of a breakfast meal and a lunch and an evening meal?

3) what is there to do on board during the day? are there any quizzes or sports competitions run? do they have bingo?

4) do they have a daily guide as to what there is to do and if so, what would a typical day be?

5) what exactly is the nightime entertainment like? are there 2 show lounges so you can mix it up if you are on a 2 week cruise?

6) What is the general make-up of nationalities on board? is it full of brits, americans, various others or a mix?

7) is tipping included in the price? some cruise lines charge you $10pp per day for tipping on top of the cruise price. is this the case with ocean village?
8) are there a large range of excursions available and are there lots per port of call? is there more than 1 port of call that does the dolphin swim??

9) what are the dining options? can you eat whenever or are you allocated a table and time?

10) can you book the excursions for ocean village with the travel agent before you travel or can you only book them on board the ship?

11) Is room service available and if so, is there a charge?

12) what facilities do you get in the rooms and is it really worth the extra money to get an outside cabin as opposed to an inside one?

13) do you get the chance to catch up on events back home, i.e. with a ship's newspaper?

14) what is the journey like? is there much rocking about? which parts of the caribbean are likely to cause some sea-sickness?

many many thanks for anyone that can answer some of these questions for me.

You can't go wrong with Ocean Village.
Good food any time of the day. You can dress up if you wish, especialy for the special restaurants. You can even get puddings like sponge with custard, bread and butter pudding etc. Even in the self service ones you get starters all set out eg. prawn cocktail. There is so much choice of food that I couldn't start to give a list. Have you looked on their web site?

You only tip who you want to.

Don't know about passengers, we did the transatlantic, so most were British.

We had an inside cabin, but I would say that outside is the best, Rooms are big compared to other ships we have been on.
Sea sickness is not likely to be a problem.

Entertainment is OK but don't know about excursions.

I would go onto their web site for most of your answers. There is a very good laundry where you can do any washing for about a £1.

LOL Marn.

Hi,

on various cruise brochures, there are free DVD's that give an insight into what to expect ( i even got a princess one through the post today) but i can't seem to find one from Ocean Village, without having to pay for it. Can anyone tell me how i can get a free one?

cheers

Hi tuppence I am looking at one in front of me. Go into your local Thomas Cook shop and ask for the "Have you ever thought about taking a cruise?" DVD. There are 4 different cruiselines on the same DVD......P&O; Princess; Cunard; and Ocean Village.
