It's called Parque de Elche, or you could also ask to be dropped off at Hotel Colon or Hotel Tanit, which are both just opposite.

Some taxi drivers may recognise the name 'Dove Park', but all should certainly know it as 'Parque de Elche'.

Whilst on the subject of Dove Park...are they actually Doves that are there or are they Pigeons...and whats the difference. Does them being White make them Doves, or is it more to do with their tail feathers, or am I just getting confused with Fan Tail Doves....any twitchers out there who know the answer? (Get your Lad on the case Sue!) :)

Taggy, when we used to go to 'Dove Park' in the early 80', the birds in 'Dove Park' were indeed actual Doves. I have a picture of me and another of my mother with our arms and heads covered in white Doves. I'm sorry I've no idea how to get pics onto my PC othewise I would upload them, IF I could find them of course, but I'm 99.9% sure they were not pidgeons.

Whether or not they are pidgeons now, I really don't know. The Park itself does not seem to be as good as it used to be in the 80's, and its gor very commercial with the selling of Bird Feed.

I'm glad you decided to miss out the word at the end of that sentence. :wink
Yes John, it's the park next to the port, at the start of the Poniente Beach.

I am told by my Mick that most of the birds in dove park are actually white pigeons although he has seen few white doves too.

We have a lovely white pigeon which we "inherited" (it must have got lost in a race) many people have asked us if it is a dove.

By the way B.H.I.C. here is a bit of useless information for you, I noticed that you spelt pidgeon differently from me, pidgeon spelt your way is how you would spell wood pidgeon. :)

Sue :) :)

David.....there was not meant to be another word at the end of that sentence. But I think I understand what you mean. No, seriously, my mother and I were litterally covered with these Birds.....the Birds I mean....not........yes well...........nuff said. :zip

Doves and pigeons are members of the same family, I think it is the columbidea (spel ?) family...I think they have been known to interbreed.
Doves are usually the smaller of the birds.

I dont know what they are in Dove Park...I`ll look next time I`m up there....although I have a feeling there is a mixture

Hi everyone.

Just got back from Dove Park.....and whilst I`m no bird expert, I only knew about pigeons and doves cos I was looking for info about a pigeon that is endemic to Tenerife a few weeks ago, for someones question in the Tenerife forum......
Both me and David agree that they are white pigeons  and there are hundreds of them...took some video footage, swooping all over a woman feeding them, eating out of her hand and perched all over her

Glad they are still there Sanji, my son loves feeding them. Thought they all may have been culled due to bird flu. Hope they are still there in June when we go.
7 weeks and counting! :sun 8)

Here you are...some photos that I have grabbed off the video.
I decided not to show these as a video because they focus on a little girl dressed in a bikini type dress, and whilst I have no daughters or grandchildren, I would feel very uncomfortable of someone videoing her without my permission in "close shot", and posting her picture on the internet...or maybe I`m just being a silly old sod  .....but, better to be safe than sorry...hope you understand and are satisfied with the pictures.

R, thanks Sanji, they are great. Now I know where to ask the taxi to take us we'll be down there a few nights. 4 weeks on Tuesday, can't wait.
I totally understand where your coming from about the little girl. You have to be really careful these days. It's a shame what this world is coming to. :?

We went to the park to feed the Doves one night last week and god were we dissapointed. Where have they all gone. We counted 10 that wern't interested in any food at all. We went again during the day a bit later in the week and still no joy. Have they been culled?

Wonder where they were when we went then :?:
We even went past on a tourist bus and seen no sign of them. Never mind, maybe next time, well Tom will be another year older and probably won't want to feed them.........
