hi!usually we leave 10% of whatever the bill was, though i suppose it also depends on the service and food!also, the same applied for the maid, if she did good job we did leave 15-20 lira as she was great!xxx

Hi AJ

10% is the norm if you've enjoyed your meal in a restaurant.

As for the maid - it's up to you.

in bars if i buy drinks i leave the price of 1, and the maid gets my accumulated change.

We too tip around 10% in restaurants and regarding the maid when we are in Turkey we buy a cheap iron and toaster to use whilst we are there and leave them for her with any toiletries we,ve not used and 10 Lira they are always really glad of them.

If you were to leave a tip for the maid, say mid week. how would you leave it? Just money on the bed or the side table?

I always place the tip in their hands just in case they are off for any reason the day I leave.

We normally tip about 10% of restaurant bill assuming food and service good (it usually is in Turkey but on the odd occasion it isn't why would you tip?) - and the equivalent of about a pound a day for the maid-we gave a 20 lira tip ( about £7.50) to the maid for our recent week in Bitez and she seemed pleased with that.
But as mentioned earlier tipping is very much a personal thing-don't feel obliged to tip if you don't feel it is deserved. 8)

Mcfester we always get to know her name, write it on a piece of paper with thankyou in Turkish and put it on top of the gifts with the money on top of the note.

We always gave a 10% tip. I saved all my little bits of lira and changed them the day before we left and gave it to the maid, plus a bottle of wine i won on the Lazy day.The maids face was a picture when we gave it to her and she hugged us so, so hard. With all the little bits we had saved we ended up giving her £25  Its suprising how it all adds up. It was worth it because she did a fantastic job. When you think of all the long hours they work, and the good job they do the deserve every penny in my eyes. Looks like i will be saving again when we return in 10 weeks time. Happy hols.
