Bazza, well done you try out this link http://holidayforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=40355&highlight=turkish+phrases

I just used the search facilty above inputting turkish AND phrases

And whilst Lynn you are quite correct that everyone speaks English, the Turkish do appreciate a little effort on our part to learn a bit of their language - even if if just hello, goodbye and thanks

Bazza,

I agree with leighanne. While everyone does speak English in the resorts it is nice to be able to say a few basic comments in Turkish and always get's a good reaction. Try this link http://www.onlineturkish.com/greetings.asp

Unfortunately only half my post seems to have posted.

I did try to say the BBC's web site has a language page that downloads the basic like hello, goodevening that kind of thing on mp3 player form

and the not to worry part for Bazza was I noticed on a previous post that they were leaving Monday evening.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Language

Turkish can be a difficult language for the English tongue to master, but we find that a few choice words here and there go long way when talking with locals. What of those odd characters in Turkish writing though? Even the name Ã"¡alis looks difficult to say. Well, the easiest thing to do is learn a few words phonetically and not worry too much about the individual letters. Also, some of the sounds in Turkish can be quite difficult for English speakers to say, so approximations can be used and will be understood. For example, Ã"¡alis should be pronounced as follows:

Ã"¡ - ch as in chair
a - u as in ugly
l - l
i - er as in number
s - sh as in shelf

but Cha-lish is a good approximation. Here are some words and phrases that you may find useful:
