Sandie,
can't speak for turgetries, bitez is a laid back place with not much night life apart from restaurants etc.
easy to get to bodrum/ gumbet for night life though.
beach is fairly narrow with sand a bit on the coarse side in the central area but softer and wider at each end away from the centre.
I THINK that turgetries is quieter and smaller.

You're wrong Del, we had a day out to Turgutries and was quite surprised at the size of it. In fact it seemed more like a small town in places. The sea front was OK, much like the others in the Bodrum area.

We talked to some people who had stayed there, and their hotel was nowhere near the resort centre. I think there is another beach area where a lot of the hotels are.

We wouldn't go there for a holiday. Much prefer good old Bitez.

Not too long before you go back to Bitez, is it Del.

Bye...........Marn, and Mike.

made a mistake re turgetries, I was thinking odf Gumusluk.
Turgetries is were the market is and you'r right, it is bigger than bitez, also the shops are under cover which makes for some shade when it's scorching

Thanks for the info - but what about a walk for 'im indoors'? Also can you recommend any hotels which have a fridge/minibar & a bit of life in the bar at night? When I mentioned nightlife I don't mean I'm looking for clubs/discos ( we're a bit long in the tooth for that!) but like a bit of music & to have chat with a few people over a drink.

If you decide on Bitez you will find a lot of people on this forum will say "go to the Manuela Hotel"

Just search for Manuela hotel and you will find many reports about it.
The rooms do have a fridge, and the bar is the most lively one in Bitez.

Also a very friendly hotel.

There are some good walks along the coast from Bitez - I am told that you can walk to Gumbet but I am a bit too long in the tooth to have made it all the way. We usually walk in the morning and have gone a good way round the headland. Also, you can walk through the village to the main road - it is very interesting to see all the 'posh' houses up there!! We love Bitez and will be back there in September.

Thanks everyone. Bitez is looking favourite right now! Unless of course anyone comes along to persuade me otherwise!
