Hi i need some advice.
My husband and two kids and myself travelled back from Cyprus to Gatwick on Monday morning with Excel airways. On claiming our baggage our biggest suitcase appears to have been "slashed" with something sharp. We opened the case and found that several items were missing so went to the baggage desk and reported what we had found. We were given a report and told to contact Excel by writing and to claim for the missing items on our travel insurance (camcorder, trainers, and camera).
However, we have since been told that our travel insurance does not cover these items because they were packed in our suitcase and not being carried on our person and the same appears to be the same with our home insurance.
According to Excel they will not accept any claims for missing items either - and there is no way i can replace the items myself.
Anyone have any ideas?????
Seeing as the suitcase appears to have been "slashed" and tampered with I dont see why we should loose out when the bagagge is in there care.
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
It was such an awful end to a perfect holiday!

How awful mdaly, that's terrible. You might get some quicker answers if you post it in the Airline & Flights forum - Have a search through there as well, as someone may have had the same problem.

I've replied to your original post in the Complaints forum but have said that I don't think you stand much chance of getting anything more than a replacement suitcase from them. The terms and conditions of most airlines and carriers makes it clear that they are only liable for compensation up to limits set out in the Warsaw Convention which are very low and if your insurance specifically excludes items packed in your hold baggage then whatever the moral rights and wrongs of the case I would be extremely surprised to find that Excel have any liability beyond replacing the damaged case.
