Any sign of the jellyfish?

Has anyone who's been to Mallorca recently experienced the jellyfish which I understand were prevalent last year? We are off to Ca'n Pickafort in 4 weeks and would like to be able to swim in the sea without fear of getting stung.

I think last year it was more mid to end of July when they were in the news. I haven't heard anything so far so all you do is keepyour fingers crossed.

Hi

We came back from Santa Ponsa 2 weeks ago - no sign of jelly fish there.

However went to Formentor for the day and I have never seen so many - there were hundreds. We saw one little boy get stung and he was very distressed.

Was in Alcudia, 1st two weeks of June and there were a few about during the second week. It was noticable that there were less people in the sea, so I think people were aware?

I know you'll all think this is a stupid question but what would I have to do if me or my dauhgter got stung off a jellyfish?

Either vinegar from a close by bar or more disgusting, urine!!!
If there a life guard about they may have treatment for it but vinegar is a good painkiller!

Thanks for that. My boss (who thinks he knows everything) told me that you shoud either wrap it up in a wet hot towel or submerge it in the hottest water you can find. He's probably made that up so I suffer. :cry:

I was badly stung a few years back at calas De mallorca. If it happens then get ice from the bar and apply. Take a couple of packets of antihistamine tablets such as piriton with you and have a couple of those as well. It won't cure it but will take away a lot of the pain and irritation.

I got stung a couple of years ago at sa colabra , it hurt like a bad nettle sting but we had no medication with us. By the time i had driven back up the mountains the pain had gone but i am a lot more carefull now when swimming abroad.

Last year we were at Blanes and a couple of Spanish kids got stung. Their parents were very grateful for the 'antihistamina' tablets we had in our 1st aid kit.

I once thought that Urine was reccomended for temporary relief of the pain but have since read that it can actualy cause further iritation. Vinegar is reccomended.

Just come back from Sa Coma and no sign of Jelly Fish, also went to Calla Mallor again no sign of jelly fish.

When i was swimming i didnt see a thing :shock:

it was just like sea weed floating towards me as i pushed it away it stung me on my chest.
When i got out of the sea and looked from the rocks above i could see hundreds of the blighters. Another annoying thing was that there were people on the beach who knew they were there and didnt warn us. This year however i swam several times in Alcudia and didnt see one jellyfish.

Hi bulnana. Was Sa Coma/Cala Millor busy. We are thinking of going June/July next year. Would be interested to hear what you thought of resort/accommodation. Thanks.

Heard today that people have been advised to stay out of the water at the beaches in Cala San Vicente. Lots of jellyfish. No reports that they have come round the Formentor headland and into the bay of Pollensa or the bay of Alcudia. But it's been so stinking hot, it wouldn't be surprising

We came back from Alcudia a week ago and whilst there we went on a boach trip and whilst picking up other people from different places we noticed hundreds of jellyfish really close to the beaches where people would be swimming. People on these beaches mustve been aware of them coz there was noone swimming, just people paddling.
