So been researching Gumbet for my trip in August, thought I'd share my findings with all you other travelers! Thanks to Elaine, got lots of information from her comments.
-Apartments are hotels with self catering meaning they have a kitchen and you can bring your own food and drinks in.
-Hotel is what you would expect, except some won't let you bring in outside food. So any hotel is fine as long as we find out that they allow outside drinks in for sure.
-Villas are detached houses you can rent out for a week. Villas are often cheaper than hotels for a group and allow you to use pools at local hotels.
For reviews on any of these check the main site or holidays-uncovered
All the below hotels have good reviews. We decided on the Magnific for the lively atmosphere. These are the prices for booking around August directly with the hotel (pounds per person for 2 people per room). July/August is the busy season so the price will be higher than if you are planning a trip some other time:
Royal Asarlik Beach (AI) - 45 pounds http://www.royalasarlikbeach.com/ five stars
Grand Iskandil Hotel (AI) - 38 pounds http://www.iskandil.com.tr/EN/Default.asp

AI - all inclusive, HB - half board (breakfast/dinner), B&B - bed and breakfast, S/C - self catering
*most places charge extra for a/c, added the costs of a/c for the ones I know
I also found this lovely map of Gumbet someone made. If you know the location of a hotel and want me to add it, let me know.
When you research a holiday, you go the whole hog don't you?
Very impressive - I'm sure you'll feel the benefit when you're soaking up the sun on the beach at the Magnific .
Happy holidays,
Elaine
