I'm shocked to find out that this hotel has closed. Somebody mentioned in another topic that it closed at the end of 2008. Does anybody have any information on this please as it's somewhere hubby and I wanted to return to at some point?
It was also mentioned that it was strange seeing a big gap along the seafront- I'm assuming this means it's not only closed but been knocked down I was hoping that maybe it was temporarily shut for a refurb
Any news on this hotel will be gratefully received.
Thanks!

Shirley has this something to do with pulling down of buildings without planning permission that seems to be going on in the bigger resorts . Theres a topic about it somewhere . something like buildings being demolished in Marmaris .
oops . Read over on the gumbet topic after I had read this that Kedi says it's been closed since 2008 so can't be what I was thinking above shirley .

The hotel buildings were still there last year but empty. At night is was odd because it was completely dark along the whole of the area taken up by the hotel and the bars that belonged to it.
I have no idea what they will be doing this year. Apparently there is an ongoing legal case that hadn't been resolved last I heard.
Its a shame because its in a lovely spot on the beach.
Hubby and I stayed at the Baba hotel in 2008 and am gutted that it has closed down. It would have been somewhere we would have definately returned to at some point!
As I said in the other thread I'm shocked to learn the Baba hotel is shut. Gumbet and the Baba hotel were our very first venture into Turkey and we loved it. The hotel was recommended by a friend I work with. She has now bought a house in Gumbet and is great friends with Roy and Ali - who were the two blokes that ran the boat trip from the Baba. Always wanted to go back to Gumbet and especially the Baba hotel
Always wanted to go back to Gumbet and especially the Baba hotel
Same here Denny and it was also our first holiday to Turkey. We've booked again for August - this time to Olu Denz
hi have just joined saw on forum that someone has booked for july to stay there and someone has kindly set there mind at rest that it will be re opened after having a re-do... i am booked to go there on 1st may... has anyone any idea if it is likely to be open by then?? I have looked through trip advisor etc.. and have received the same worrying message that its shut etc... only staying there because loads of people at work have stayed there and said how great it was with wonderful location... first trip to turkey bit apprehensive to say the least anyone got any info. on where to eat etc... also understand that there is alot of buildings being knocked down... we got cheap late deal... flying with onur air again, seen some real bad reviews on the web... but hopefully my fears will be unfounded.. also what is the weather like in may... will it be warm enough to swim.. etc is it cold in evenings... any info greatly received...
The Hotel Baba was closed last summer and no-one was sure whether it would be opening again this year, however the latest newqs is that it is being refurbished and will be open this season. As the season starts on 1st May the hotel should be ready by then, the majority of the major building work that has been going on should also be finished by 1st May to coincide with the beginning of the tourist season. If you are going with Thomas Cook they will be in touch if for some reason the building work isn't complete, they have been relocating people who are going the last two weeks of April to a very good hotel a little way off from the beach front ones so they aren't disturbed by the work. At the moment they aren't relocating anyone in May as the work should be finished but if you are worried give them a call as thay are aware of what is happening.
The hotel Baba is a very nice hotel, in a great location, right on the beach and also in the centre of the resort. there are plenty of very good restraurants in Gumbet, you will find every kind of food available for traditional Turkish to Chinese, Italian, Indian, Mexican etc. If you fancy trying some traditional Turkish food the best restaurant to go to is Seray Zetas, just a few minutes away from the Baba, it is very reasonably priced and the food is amazing. There are alos loads of bars ranging from laid back, quite places to busy, lively dancing bars. It will still be fairly quiet in may but you will find plenty to see and do.
The weather should be lovely, very warm in the day, maybe a little chilly some evenings so bring a cardi or light jacket just in case. It will be hot enogh to sit on the beach but the sea and swimming pools will be very cold! I always swim but some people wont go in.
Don't worry about Onur Air, i have flown with them and they are no different from any other budget airline.
I'm sure you will enjoy your first trip to Turkey and to Gumbet. If you want to know anything else just give me a shout, I lived in Gumbet for a few years so I know it pretty well.

Olu Deniz is lovely and don't forget to get a dolmus up to Hisonaru - very different from Olu - but I think you would like it.
thanks for your help that has answered alot of my questions... was getting bit worried.. as we arrive at 2 in morning.. my husband had visions of us being left stranded on seafront.. in gumbet.. l am sure we will enjoy turkey... lots of people l know go back time and time again and lots of people have stayed at baba... haven't booked through thomas cook.. got late deal with on the beach... went to tenerife in march.. again late deal and the water although cold was fine once you where in... hope turkey is the same.. will let you know my experience when l return.... jo

hi all just been on the thomas cook website and the baba is available to book from 3rd may.. so looks like the hotel work will be finished when we travel this weekend.. hope so. will let you all know what it was like when, being the optimum word when we get back
Hi all just got back from week at the BABA. I am happy to say it was wonderful.. Yes hotel was closed, but one side now re-open, yes it is work in progress, but we had no problems at all.. Rooms basic but spotless, clean towels fresh linen everyday.. food great, staff excellent location excellent.. what more can l say.. l really thought it was going to be week from hell, but am glad to say it was a wonderful surprise.. the weather was wonderful to.. only down side was the flight out with turkuaz air, god what a journey, no air con on plane seats like sardines l am 5ft 2 and l felt squashed so many complained about heat on plane to no avail... on way back with onur air, what a difference more legroom air con that worked, although cabin crew didnt say much, it was nice flight back.. if you are flying out with turkuaz air, make sure you wear light clothes otherwise you might find it bit hot... gumbet and roadworks coming along really well, in the week that we where there you can notice difference.. will look lovely when all finished...
HI, I'm glad to hear the Baba's up and running again as I was disapointed to hear that it had closed. We had a brilliant holiday there a number of years ago and swore we'd return one day. We're off to Olu deniz in the summer so providing we still enjoy the Turkey experience who knows, the Baba could be on the cards for next year
Glad you are having a nice time and it's good to hear that Gumbet is looking better. Enjoy your holiday
Do u have any pics of the new Baba hotel? I am looking to book it for the last week in June but am still unsure as yours seems to be the only review of the refurbed Baba and there isnt too many pics of the rooms etc!
Thanks, Paul.
