Hi everyone
I got back from Gumbet yesterday after two weeks there and had a wonderful time. Beautiful weather, beautiful place and lovely people. I would highly recommend it.
I went with my boyfriend and stayed at the Hotel Baba. You may be aware that we had some concerns before we went as the hotel had closed the previous year and has now been split in half. However there were no problems. The hotel was basic but rooms were kept clean and the location was excellent, right on the beachfront and at the bottom of bar street. The pool was really nice and we always got a sunbed. Breakfast was the same every day and there wasn't much choice, but was ok. Sometimes we went for a full english breakfast at nearby restaurants for 5TL (£2).
We went on lots of trips whilst there including Dalyan (where we visited the mudbaths and got to see loggerhead turtles), Kos, the aquapark, turkish bath, horseriding, boat trip etc. All were great and very good value for money. If you book a few trips you can knock the price down and also get the turkish bath for free. Don't book the trips through your rep, as its twice as expensive! There are lots of shops around that offer much better prices, I highly recommend KLS voyages, next to hotel baba.
The beach was shingle but still nice. Sunbeds were free but if you chose one that wasn't outside your hotel they expected you to buy a drink.
The food was out of this world the majority of the time. Only one meal we were not satisfied with. I would highly recommend turkish food or steaks, often cooked to perfection (especially in Seray Zetas and Hotel Baba itself). You can have your meal on the beach which is very romantic. Food was very reasonably priced (10-25TL per person). We found drinks on the expensive side except for the local beer (efes). One annoying thing is the hassle you get from people trying to get you into there restaurant, it can get a bit annoying but just be polite but firm and they will get the message.
The nightlife is great for you party animals. We would recommend Central Bar and X bar. Steer clear of Atlantis, we found them rude and they would not leave our table until we had ordered drinks, even when we asked for a few minutes to decide. For alternative music visit the outback bar.
We worried before we left that we would run out of money. We changed up £500 each for the two weeks and this was plenty. We ate out every night but 1 (had burger king one night lol), had lunch out, went on lots of trips and had 3 big nights out drinking and a couple of smaller nights out where we had one or two efes. So if you are big drinkers you may want slightly more money or to do fewer trips. But this budget was perfect. I also did parasailing and banana boat.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend it.

I'm glad you had a good time. Is the dinosaur still outside the Baba?
Hi Kedi, do you mean the dinosaur at the crazy golf at the Baba? It was there when we left but is in the half of the Baba that wasn't open. They hadn't done anything with the crazy golf - my son in law is hoping that it will reopen as, like a big kid, he enjoyed it there!!
thanks for the review- it brought back memories of our stay at the baba. Is the Baba bar (by the crazy golf) still open. They used to show the only fools and horses series there lol
I'm gald the dinosaur is still there Jakki, my girls love him and they would be sad if he wasn't there.
yep the dinosaur is still there. The crazy golf is now open but its not part of the baba. It costs 10TL per person.
Wow, my son in law will be delighted at that news.
Is this the dino you mean....
Yes, that is him! We have to stop every time we walk along the front so the girls can say hello
Well, he was up until 17th July (when i had to come home to the rain!)....
just returned home this morning from parkim ayaz hotel in gumbet
We had a fabulous time there , this was our 2nd visit and we will hopefully return next year, the only downside was that the entertainment at the hotel was exactly the same as last year apart from the acrobats show, this was really good and we enjoyed it
We spent every night in the cozzy bar last year but seeing as entertainemnt was the same we decided to go to other places , we went to lmt bar which was really nice and the workers there were really freindly, drinks reasonably priced at 3 90 for pint of efes, and sex on the ebach cocktail for 4 90
We also went to cool breeze bar every evening , again the workers there were lovely and made us feel very welcome, drinks there were 4 for efes and 6 for cocktails
We went once to the no name bar and discovered they hadnt actually put any alcohol in our cocktails so we pulled them over it and straight away got the drinks that we had asked for, needless to say we had this 1 drink then left and didnt return there at all
The rate for the euro was 1.90 lira which was a bit down on last year and sterling was 2 30 lira
We did a few trips , an all inclusive boat trip to 5 islands , this wasnt bad but drinks were served in small plastic cups and seeing as we were right on the top deck it made it awkward going up and down to get drinks
T shirts still at reasonable prices, the cheapest ones were 6 for 25 lira is some places, and the better ones we got at 3 for 40 lira
Gumbet didnt seem as busy as it did last year though and lots of shop keepers and bar staff said they thought this season was very quiet compared to others
Our flights both ways were on time which was great as some flights this morning were delayed by a few hours
Happy holidays to all visiting turkey soon !!
