we are shortly going on 3 night break, staying in Frome, Somerset.
During this time we want to visit Longleat, Glastonbury and Avebury as well as looking around locally.
I am assuming we will need a full day at Longleat, so of the other 2 places how long would you estimate please to have a good look around both of them?
(We want to allow a day for one of them and half a day for the other) Thanks
I'd recommend a day for Glastonbury - you can walk up to the Tor, go to the Abbey and then go shopping at Clarks Village in Street (a factory outlet centre selling all sorts about 5 miles from Glastonbury). You could also spend a day in Salisbury to visit the cathedral and nearby Stonehenge or go to Bath where you can visit the Roman Baths and the Kennet & Avon canal. Westbury is about 5 miles from Frome and has large white horse painted on the hill.
You should try to visit Stonehenge - even if only for a short time and the village of Malmesbury is worth a look for its Abbey and quaint shops!
It may be a bit busy and touristy, but Cheddar is also worth a visit, although 3 days is a bit limiting to see a lot.
bultins minehead is great for child and adults alike you have adults themed breaks are like being in greece on a 18-30 hoilday however the chilren and family break are good the accomdation is what you pay for but upgrades are always possible on the day of arrival and a small fee extra as well you can get meal passes but stay inyou self catering unit which is great for space ...[/i][/b]
With Longleat, yes it definetly takes a day, espically on a weekend. I would personally recommend with getting there first thing (I think it opens at 10am) and try and be among the first into the safari park or alternatively go to the house and the attractions there first and do the safari later in the day. The house is also really worth visiting, its stunning inside... but my favourite attraction at Longlet has always been the Sea Lion lake, the boat is fantasic fun, espically if its not to busy as they often let you feed them.
I personally found Stonehenge a bit of a rip off, I think it now costs something like £5 to get in and like the author Bill Bryson said, people just stand around it desperatetly trying to extract there admission fee's worth of exposure from the rocks.
Cheddar and Cheddar Goerge is really worth a visit as well, the caves are an intresting walk and the drive through the George is impressive. The fish and chip shop near the car park at the far end of the village serves fantasic portions as well!
Finally the city of Bath is an obvious choice if you would like a day of shopping or alternatively its got great park and museums, including of course the Roman Baths.
twice as we didn't see it all in one day!
House and gardens open at 10 but the attractions don't open till 11! Longleat recommend you visit the boats first to avoid queues and the safari last, which is what we did. Hardly any wait on the boats and left car park, got to the gate about 10mins before last entry for the safari which I think is 4pm. Everything closes at 5.30. Fab fort for the kids, you could spend all day in there!!! Take costumes if it's a nice day theve installed a fountain play area this year and it's great fun. Kids can have their hands stamped for re-entry.
Cheddar is nice even if you just drive through.
http://www.cheddarcaves.co.uk/ I'm sure I've seen a ticket that allows you entrance to all the attraction, not sure where I saw it though!
Clarks Village in Street for some retail therapy.
