Hi, it all depends what you like to drink - we like the whites and worked our way through the wine list!
You'll find loads of great, cheap soaves - dry white - pinot grigio - again dry white - there will be frascati wines ( dry white ) and the sweeter drinks like Asti Spumante. The reds are great - again its all according to taste! Try the Bardolino or Barolo ---

If you go into a wine shop in Riva you will find that they will be relaly helpful and may even let you have a free tipple to try!

We did a wine tour to the Grigiolleti Vineyards - their wine is excellent and at anout 5 pounds a bottle maximum superb value

Where are you staying?

Re the walking - try up the mountain! There is a medium walk to the castle La Rocca that is easy to find and a really grim one to the top -- for the strong at heart!!! There is a cable car at Malcesine that will take you to the top of Monte Baldo and the walks up there ----------

You can also take the lake path all the way to Torbole - the next town along - a lovely walk and superb scenery. There is also a walk to Arco - ask at the Tourist Info Centre in town - they are superb and will give maps etc etc

Thanks for your information regarding wine - I'm happy to try anything so will look out for your recommendations. Would like to walk in the area so will contact tourist information when we get there.
