You'd be surprised the number of times Turkish restaurant owners will ask holidaymakers to bring them real pork sausage, bacon etc. Its because its so expensive and really rubbish quality to buy in Turkey. There are pig farms in Turkey too.

I agree with Alizda, a cooked breakfast will cost you just a few pounds, chesse, butter & cooked meats can be brought at any of the local supermarkets.

but in answer to your question ...no you cannot take a cool box full of meat & dairy products, many people do take in items, but no so obviously as a cool box (which is asking to be searched for illegal items like meat & dairy products.

I'm with Carmen on this one, preferring to take my own sausages, bacon and cheese as they're much better than what you get in Turkey. It's only for breakfast the rest of the time we eat out. I wasn't aware you couldn't take these things, so will keep doing it until I'm told otherwise.

We all do it Molly - Though i take for my friends restaurant (and subsequently let them cook, serve & do dishes ) But it is against the law - and if found it would be confiscated - Hence why a coolbox is not a good idea. Be discreet and you will be ok

as its always been its illegal as pointed out inthe thread earlier but you takes your chance it is an deportable offence smuggling pork and dairy products into turkey

I wouldnt worry to much, I've taken food for our use over for the last 4 years, touch wood had no probs. And have done when gone to Spain in years gone by and used my old tatty cool box.

just check how many cool boxes are on the luggage belts when you're in a queue to see how a lot of people take food over.

i dont go mad take usually take, 2lbs bacon, couple packs sausages. carton longlife milk, couple bottles of juice and cereal and Teabags. to tide us over the first week, then we dont bother so much the second week.

You cant buy decent dilutable juice abroad, you get that princes juice with red bits at the bottom, or pay a small fortune for something recognisable, or buy that Tang powdered stuff.

then on the way back i put some pressies in it, like boxer shorts or belts if we've bought them and usually haven't gone over our allowance.

The breakfasts although cheap n cheerful aren't always that nice, the sausages have always been horrid hotdog type sausages.

Hi All my name is Easha,,, i am off to Marmaris on Oct 16th to see my brother who moved to Turkey just over a year ago. This is my first time abroad and am a little nervous as to what to expect. My brother has asked me to take a few things over for him such as bacon, sausages which i have found out is illegal to take and i could be deported for it so not keen on taking these items being my first time. He has also asked me to take him some fruit and nut chocolate and dairy milk does anyone know if i can take the chocolate,,, also he has asked me to take powdered baby milk as he says much cheaper here than in Turkey,,,, have looked on baa site and its says you can take baby milk,,, does anyone know if this is ok to take to turkey. Any help or advice would eb appreciated.

It's meat & fish & dairy food they don't allow.

Sweets, dried food, packets, tins, stuff like that is OK.

We always take A few things to get us through the first days especialy having 5 children in the family (my 3) and my sisters 2 We normaly Take 2 pints of frozen milk (the kids won't touch the turkish stuff) and the very handy packet of grated cheese you get in asda and tea bags to last us the holiday. as some nights we eat in as my mother likes to cook so its her holiday aswell if she wants to cooklet her i say!!

it puzzles me that as soon as Uk tourists step off the bus they are on a mission to find a place with ''bacon''..and an ''english breakfast''..half of them preobably never bother at home.

ıt also has ensured that Turks think the only cuisine we have is a bacon sarnie.

Whatever floats their boat Shirley.Some people see it as a part of their holiday i think.. wake up to a full English. Not me personally im happy with a cup of strong coffee for my brekkie

It is probably due to the convenience factor, that some people find it easier to go out and have someone cook their food for them. Let's be truthful, it is rather cheap to eat out in Turkey. Admittedly we have done this on the odd occasion in Icmeler. Otherwise, when we go Self Catering we take cereal with us. Of course, you are right, that most people don't have a fry up every day at home. A lot wait until they get to work and raid the canteen or nearby Deli.

Having said that, we are returning to Hotel Nur in Kalkan which is Bed and Breakfast Board and it is Turkish style of which we enjoy very much, it varies from day to day. There is traditional English Fayre at extra cost.

thats the last thing we look for lol i cant think of anything worse than a cooked breakfast, but everyone is different and thats not us. we love the turkish bread so with some jam etc and some fresh fruit and fruit juice that does us great

personally i would kill for a fry up,but no such luck were we go,i have to make do with bread-cheese and boiled eggs,

sorry for going slightly but does anybody know if all food products are not aloud to be taken into turkey,was just wondering if a jar of peanut butter would be ok,yes i know i'm weird but i love crunchy peanut butter on toast and at least it would make a change to all those eggs
