Thanks Hurdler.
I'm a great fan of the frappes too.
Is there a mosquito problem in Tolon? Just wondering ifI should pack a burner or spray?

There was a big problem with mozzies while we were there. We had a bug plug ,mozzie coils and repellant and still got eaten alive. They were everywhere and very persistent.

HI kobrien!
Well I've been and am now back
I was staying in the Hotel Romvi and would recommend the restaurant there. We tried a few other places but kept coming back to the Romvi. Excellent quality, value & the best barrel retsina in town!
The place with the tables right out on the pier was also good and a welcome place to sit on a very hot evening as you caught the breeze wafting past.
To be honest I don't think you can go too far wrong when eating out in Greece. Menus are very traditional with similar dishes on offer everywhere and the quality is consistently high.
Enjoy your holiday! :)

Hi Toastedmallow

Did you have a good time in Tolo? Hope it was everything you was expecting.
Interesing to hear about the restaurant with tables on the Pier, I have had bad reports from there previously, we will have to give it a try this year.

Hi Ginamac
The taverna where they put tables on jetty is the only one ever in Tolo we have been diappointed with. They make a show of moving the tables and it is a bit showbiz but we found the food not quite up to the billing. This year will be our fourth visit so we have sampled quite a few tavernas. I think we have been in nearly all at the harbour end of town.

The only problem we have usually is the one toastedmallow prob has now- all the extra lbs put on. :)

Hi folks!
Yes Gina I did enjoy Tolo, but was a bit disappointed in the town/village? itself. I didn't think it was very attractive. However the view from our hotel more than compensated plus the proximity to so many interesting places.
Sorry that was off topic & don't want to get told off again!
kobrien you're so right. I weighed myself this morning  so am in process of trying to motivate myself re a diet.
Also re restaurants in Tolo, we found that the food was too rushed. In some cases we hadn't finished our starter when the waiters appeared hovering with the main courses. Even when we asked for a 30 min break they pleasantly said yes, and then proceeded to do their usual! I would have understood if there was pressure for tables, but we always ate about 9.00pm and the main rush was over. Then we got to sit for ages at the end finishing our wine. It didn't make great sense to me.
Anyway I'm sufferwing withdrawal symptoms at the mo! Could murder a frappe!

Re the food service. In some tavernas (not touristy ones) they bring out the food as it is ready regardless of whether it is a main or starter. I have been told that this is normal practice and that starters followed by mains is something that is done for the tourists. Not sure how much truth there is in this but it could be the reason why they brought the mains so quickly.
Kobrien, we normally sit at the bar/taverna to the right of the restaurant on the jetty (looking out to sea) and have heard several comments re the food not being the best at this particular taverna. We sometimes go there for drinks as it is the place where friends of ours go. They are very nice pleasant people and the owner is always very friendly with us. Our favourite eating place on the beach is to the right of the bar/taverna. I have always had good food there. One of hubby's favourite places is cafe ? (thats it's name) past the bend walking towards sandy beach but I find the choices limited.
I am looking forward to my first Frappe but it won't be until the 4th Sept, it seems so far away.
