Hope the mods dont mind, but can I ask for some reccomendations as to the best places to eat in and around Candolim/Calangute ??
We usually go as part of a large group with one or two who cant walk so far, as a result we generally end up eating at the Sea-Shell (near the Sportsmans Bar) and others close by, seeing as we stay at the Silver Sands Hotel.
We're going to the Silver Sands again on Nov 30th for 3 weeks, and this time it's just the 2 of us and we were hoping to try different places. Any and all input is appreciated as I will write the suggestions down and hopefully give them a try.
Thanks in advance ....
theres loads of great places to eat as you know but one of my fave places is brittos down on baga beach.........and we went to the oceanic on baga beach when it was barbecue night and i got the biggest most gorgeous prawns ive ever seen in my life...lol
thats one place i will defo be going in november ...lol
angie xx
Sheetels opposite the main entrance to the Silver Sands serves great food and also the Silver Sands beach shack Ceu Mar both easy to walk to. The beach shack has a path from the hotel so no awkward walks across the sand. Also a nice thing with the Ceu Mar is that it is high up so you get a nice breeze and a good veiw.
http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=126168 although it's quite old so some recommendations will be out of date. I did spot some old faithfulls in there though.
This thread will get you started
Knobsy, our favourite is the Thai Oriental at the Mira in Calangute.
What I'm hoping for is a few ideas on here then i can print them off and take them with us. I've seen the link thats been posted (cheers ) and will take that as a back-up, but still welcome any other suggestions folk on here have, seeing as some on the posted link may not still be in business.
Plus, I think chin-wagging about food is a great way to bring back fond memories of Goa and also get you in the mood for forthcoming travels back there. Helps pass the time away for me anyway. Thanks again all.
Redstingers .... I've stayed at the Siver Sands and wasn't aware they had their own shack ??? The Ceu Mar eh ??? As you walk down onto the beach, do you turn left (towards the Big Blue Shack) ... or right ???
Knobsy - Silver Sands beach shack is the one you come to before you actually get on the beach...
Aha .... the big one on the left hand side ???
Knobsy, you go access the beach to the right of the restaurant directly opposite the entrance to Silver Sands rather than via beach road entrance. Ceu Mar is straight in front before you hit the beach.

I can also highly recommend the above.
Sendras in Calangute is excellent if he opens this year.He was talking about moving.
A very timely thread this one as we are going in November and one of my favourite pastimes is looking for places to eat.
Papa
Soumyens Kitchen - border of Candolim / Calangute. Great food and service.
Plantain Leaf - Calangute. Purely vegetarian but great food and as cheap as chips! Try the Thalis!
our favourites are all spice in arpora, nisha`s on tito`s road, kim faa lovely chinese, and for a nice setting east meets west, and top of our list for our next visit is bomra`s (burmese)
i so love thinking about where to eat, that very selfishly look forward to the november guys getting back from their holiday so i can read their new restaurant posts
Happy eating, Deb
not sure if east meets west will be open this year
Go out the main entrance of the Silver Sands, Sheetels is directly opposite, the path to the beach shack is on the righ hand side of Sheetels. As you get to the side the shack is directly in front of you.
I really cant believe i've not been to the SS shack after staying in their hotel ???!!!!! ............... I similarly cant believe not one of the staff at the SS mentioned it !! Is it a seperate company (of sorts) ?? Not that i'm fussed, just curious.
Thanks again for giving me more to print off .... brilliant.
Kim Faa served steamed ( or probably microwaved) "Crispy" duck with their pancakes, the portions of everything were small and the food and drinks expensive. However, that was what I found. There have been many recommendations for this place in the past.
One thing that strikes me though is that a recommendation from last year is a dodgy one as all sorts of changes can take place, new owner, new chef, etc etc. The best recommendations are from fellow guests right now ! Even then there is a risk you go on the chef's night off !!!!

Dead right, there DaveWales. It can happen that the best restaurants have a bad night. It's so disappointing to return to a restaurant that was brilliant last year to find it's gone down the tubes this year.
However, I've always studied the recommendations and tried several on the list. Some we've really enjoyed and would never have found without a HTer sharing their experience. I agree that some that are heavily recommended leave me cold - I95 springs to mind.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Earlier this year one of our favorite restaurants was Chef Souymens. I just hope that is still as good next month!!
Have a great time
