Floyds Hut again very good.
Sendras I am afraid not so good on this visit.
A bit off topic but does anyone know why Bom Succeso is closed.Did not really rate their food but it was a bit of a Goa institution.
Bom Succeso was open when we were here between 15/11 & 6/12.
We ate at:
Floyds - not Floyds Hut) - the food was very good, the service is very poor. Trying to get the waiter's attention is like flogging a dead horse.
Mango Grove (quite a few times) - I had really good Fish Tikka, OH's was a bit too 'charred', beef chilly fry was very tasty with lots of tender beef. Although I'm not particularly fond of chips, they sometimes came as wedges and were always nicely cooked
Jambalaya - excellent prawns in hot garlic sauce & chicken in black bean sauce
Haveli - chicken tikka & aloo paratha good, OH had cottage pie (he was a bit 'out of sorts' for the first week and a half, in fact I enjoyed most of the food I had in most of the restaurants, the negative reports are mainly from him so maybe that made hm a bit 'picky'). It can get a bit noisy for us if they have live entertainment on
Fisherman's Cove (near Jamabalya) - tasty chicken dopiaza, chicken jalfrezi was a bit too thick a consistency for OH, onion kulcha was not very onion-y at all
Floyd's Hut - fabulous kingfish, very poor chicken dopiaza. There was no chunks of breast chicken, it looked like they'd just stripped the remaining meat off the carcass, it was all stringy. We WERE the last customers in that night so maybe the chef had gone home and whoever was left did the best they could - but we'd rather have been told they were closed. May try here again in Feb because it does have some very good reports. The garlic & chilli naan (not on the menu but they did it for us without any problem) was THE BEST ever.
Carmo Beachways - this was open when we first arrived but then was closed for best part of 10 days, something to do with 'electricity'. This place has quite an extensive menu and often has domestic tourists eating there. If we're not very hungry, we'll have something like gobi aloo, gobi manchurian, dhal fry etc. We had a mixture of king prawns and tiger prawns in garlic butter which were really good. We like the 'comfy' seats on the roadside to watch the world go by
Kallinga - fish tikka was best we tasted
Bending Bamboo - Gobi Manchurian nice, Chicken & Bamboo (which wasn't cheap) was like a watery chinese soup (which it was certainly NOT described as on the menu). The waiter took my glass that still had a (admittedly small) bit of G&T left without asking whilst me & OH were chatting. Would not eat here again.
We looked at Cecilia's menu because I've read many good reports but we thought the menu was limited (to us anyway), as there didn't seem to be much Indian food on, more continental/international dishes.
That was at lunchtime, they asked if we wanted the breakfast menu and we said no and looked over the menu they gave us but weren't interested in anything on there, maybe somebody can tell me if I've misjudged it.
We mainly ate at Calamari at lunchtimes, mostly Indian veg dishes spring rolls etc.
It's strange as we are not vegetarians but the Indian and Chinese veg dishes are so tasty that we tend to choose them.
Hi does anyone know a restaurant/shack called Victors,it has been recommended, its in candolim, also directions for Bomra`s please
Not sure where Victors is, although I've heard some good reveiws too. Bombras is in Candolim on the left when heading from Calangute towards Fort Aguada, was quite difficult to spot and my driver from Baga did not know it and had to ask another driver. It is worth finding, I can't wait to go again this year, the pork and pomello salad is amazing. They have a new web site with a full menu etc
Shhh dont tell everyone.
sorry Sam!
hi jaaja, thanks for that, and it was actually sam whe recommended it to us last year at the meet !!!
Victors is down the Whispering Palms beach road - go past the WP on the dirt track and go past all the sellers stalls, and he is on the left hand side, not far off the beach.
We had a great meal in Roma Pisa at top of Candolim Beach Road. Very friendly staff. Will definately go back again, good Italian menu with lots to choose from.
the tummy is rumbling now reading these recommendations cant wait to try some out looks like it could be a different one every night to try them all although when i find one that suits me i will stick to it (tasty food and big portions )
Thanks
Tried a few new places this year, found some real gems but will keep quiet about them otherwise I'll not get a table next year
That's so cruel
Sadly we havn't been to Goa for 5 years. We are planning a trip later this year. Can anyone give me idea of local restaurant prices as I suspect mine are a bit out of date! Favourites of ours were the Plantain Leaf and Little Italy. We're hoping to stay for at least a month, so will need to have sometime idea of what we need to spend to eat each day.
Thanks
We stayed right by Little Italy in March 02-16 and walked past every night.Very very quiet. Not sure why but Roma just a bit further along was the same.
We usually visit Roma a couple of times each trip but were told the Italian who ran it had moved on and a Goan owner had taken over and it was not the same.We decided to give it a miss.
