:D We paid a visit yesterday 24th to the black country museum and we thoroughly enjoyed it,weather was indeed hot, visited the caves on the canal boat which runs under the town of dudley. 4.25 each person cost.
went down the coal mines very dark cold and tiny in places supplied with a hard hat and a torch but these torches were the equivalent to a candle which the miners had in them days, real insight to the way the poor people of dudley worked.
Tried the fish and chips cooked the tradional way with dripping what a diffference that makes FANTASTIC making my mouth water at the thought.these were 4pounds each.
Visited the glass and bottle the local pub, silly me asked for lager and was told quite sternly you only get mild or bitter in the 1940.s that made us laugh.
Went to the picture house saw laural and hardy you must try this the seats are the type out the the church(hard pews) not the comfort you're used to in this day and age.
there's lot more to do this is just a little of it,'m sure anyone that goes will not say they did'nt enjoy it.
WELL DONE TO THE BLACK COUNTRY MUSEUM. :D

We went here about 10 years ago (on a Scouts trip with the kids!) and it was good....sounds as if they have added a lot more since then.

We went on a barge trip into the caves/canals too, and "down" the mine. And on an old bus.
I remember it was a damp chilly day, and in the old houses, they had volunteers in costume pretending to live like the old days, and in one house they had cooked boiled ham and potatoes, and also carrots and onions in another pot. It smelled really good!

So now we sometimes have carrots and onions together, and I call them "black country carrots".

Sorry I know this won't help you on your trip, but it brought back some memories

:D Acorncup they have acquired some more money from the lottery 2million i think but they have to match it pound for pound. they are now organising more houses and shops to be added next year, they are limited to space they only have 26 acres in total which they have used most of, but i'm sure they will put it to good use.We are looking forward to going again soon when things get a little quieter. The volunteers actually spend a weekend in one of the houses once a month reliving the GOOD OLD DAYS where they do the tradional dish's faggots+peas, tripe+onions etc.Was told by one of the volunteers to go on haloween night very good so they say.

Having been a regular visitor for over 20 years, including taking lots of people from abroad, I would say, GO! It's a wonderful day out. Well worth the money and the fish and chips from the olde chippy are to die for.

If you're travelling from afar why not stay overnight then you can sample the delights of The Pie Factory, just down the road and I defy you to eat all of one of their BIG pies and then do a visit to Dudley Zoo and castle the next day, which is also a lovely day out?

I still rave about Blist Hill and it must be 20 years since I went!

Went into the bank and changed some money for old money then Mum bought some soap from the chemists .I bought some candles ( that I watched being dipped ) and they were wrapped in some newspaper that was printed there in an old style
I'd love to go back again.

Every time I go to the Welsh museum of life St Fagans, although it has the bulidings it lacks the atmosphere of Blist hill.

Blists Hill, Ironbridge Gorge Museum. Just up the road in Shropshire.

A great rivalry exists between the the Black Country and Ironbridge as to which was the actual birth place of the Industrial Revolution. Ironbridge lays its claim at being where it was discovered how to turn coal into charcoal thereby making the smelting of iron a much more efficient process and the Black Country lay their claim because they just about produced everything that came with the IR.

I like Blists Hill but prefer the BC museum plus Blists Hill is not a mobility friendly place due to its landscape. However both are worthy of days out whether you're a local or from further away.

BCLM Is a big hit with people all over the UK.

and theres no sneaky extras when you get in to, of course you have to pay for fish and chips etc.
Its brilliant at xmas, halloween and bonfire night.

All the staff are from black country and know everything about the black country and the old days.
