I think glostommo that you'll probably end up going into Stalis a few nights because Malia is right in your face and seeing 18 somethings all running about peed up in the same t shirts every night will wear a bit thin after a while.mind you it is sound round the old village to get some sanity back.

I take offence to your post. My son is going to Malia in August with his friends and believe me he will definately not be 'running about peed in the same t.shirt every night' as you put it. Yeah, they like a drink and a laugh as much as anyone but he also takes pride in his appearance, and I can assure you knowing what he is like at home he would not entertain wearing the same t. shirt twice, let alone every night even if he had only wore it for an hour the first time. He has paid a lot of money for his holiday and I might add for the clothes he will be taking. Do not tar everyone with the same brush. Malia is well known for 18 - 30's so if you don't like that kind of thing why visit the place. Stay in the old village then you will have no complaints and you can retain your sanity.

Where you not young once ? or was you born 50

Live and let live. As long as there is no more trouble there what is the problem.

jackie, I think juggernaut means that when big groups of teens go away they all get the same tshirts with like a logo and a nickname on the back ( my sister did it recently)- its so people recognise them as being in a group. I dont think he was implying that the teens are unclean at all!!

Thankyou Lisav I think somebody got on their high horse for nothing, but I'll tell you something I've been going to Malia and the local area for the last 20 years and I don't care what anybody says I've seen lots of incidents myself and Malia has more than it's fair share of idiots and they aint the 50s to 60s.

Oh and by the way do I have to avoid going somewhere just so the inmates can run the asylum.

hey,

I went to Malia 3 years ago (at the time i was 23) and i must say it seemed pretty young (though we had a good time). We found a nice bar just off the main street called big bens where they used to feed us plenty of free drinks (they liked us filling up their bar i think.

If you're wanting a lively holiday but not 18-30's then why not try Kardemena in Kos, i went there 1st week in september in 2004 and whilst lively it didnt seem as crazy as Malia..

just a suggestion anyway :D

Go to Stalis and then you can go into Malia or Hersonissos...
You will probably find Stalis good enough but if you prefer Malia its only 15mins walk away..

Oh and your never too old

I did not get on my high horse for nothing. I read your post and took offence to what you said. If you did mean it the way Lisav explained it then I apologise. Had you have said it the way Lisav did then I would of known what you where talking about. Explain yourself properly. Also I am not saying that incidents don't happen; I am saying that not everyone who goes to Malia are looking for trouble.

Don't tar every 18 - 30 with the same brush. Believe it or not some are out there just to enjoy their holidays the same as you and me; not to make trouble. My son and his friends have heard of several more incidents in Malia recently that have not yet been reported from people they know who have just come back from there. One being two lads getting their throats slit in the middle of a club in front of their friends after being hunted down by a group of lads that they had had a bit of a row with earlier in the evening. They have been told that most of the trouble is happening around 2 clubs, The Castle? and another one. They have decided that they are going to avoid all the clubs and stick to the bars in order to try and avoid any trouble. Do they sound like inmates running the asylum? Not in my opinion, they sound like sensible 20 year olds who like I said earlier just want to enjoy their holiday.

I absolutely agree Jackie that not all of the youngs uns are the same but the main point I was trying to make to glostommo was for somebody around the 30 mark, every night down the main beach road will be a bit overpowering and a night in Stalis could be a good break, it has a great atmosphere and really lively but slightly older age group. There are a lot of young people I spoke to in Stalis this year who said they'd decided to spend most of their holiday there because they felt it was more comfortable, but it's everyone to their own.

I apologise if you felt I was 'getting on my high horse', but I felt you were labelling all youngsters as 'little s####'. To be honest I have read and heard so many bad things about Malia in the past couple of weeks, I wish to god my son and his friends weren't going there now. I have told him just to either text or give me a quick ring every morning just to let me know everything is OK. At 20 he is not very impressed with this request but realises how worried I am with the fact that people who are trying to avoid fights are still getting caught up in things. Thing is will Stalis end up over run with youngsters if they are all going to be trying to avoid trouble in Malia.?

I don't think it will happen to Stalis it's just not geared up the same it's a lot of open air bars along the road not a central feel to it so there's not a congregation area like the beach road in Malia,I'm pretty sure if your son heads there for a night out him and his friends wouldn't be disappointed very lively in August but just not rowdy.

Hi Rick,

You seem to know a fair bit about Malia / Stallis! My boyfriend and I will be staying at the Parthenis Palace in September which is in between the two resorts. Perhaps you can help provide me with some information.

1. How much money are we likely to need for two weeks?
2. Are there any nice restaurants and bars that you can recommend?
3. Where is the best place to buy milk, bread etc at a resonable price?

Any other usefulinformation would be great to.

Thanks
Anna

I 'll try to give you some help Anna our last trip was June we eat out all the time full english, dinnertime, light snack with a couple of beers, evening meal starters, mains and a litre of wine, out for a few vodkas etc, have sunbeds every day, don't do trips any more, we usually get through between 110 and 125 euro a day. There are good eating places all round Stalis and Malia old town, best without a doubt is the Kreta on the main road about 200 yards outside Malia by the petrol station, proof is you always find it has quite a few greeks there and it's queueing outside weekends. The prices there are really good too,if you go, tell George the owner, Rick says hi.The artemis in the centre of Stalis is good went off the boil for a couple of years but they have a new chef and it's sound again now.Try Petrinos in Malia old village really nice avoid St Georgios as you walk towards Petrinos no thankyou.Beachcomber bar in Stalis has a great atmosphere some nights they have a live band not the greatest music you'll ever hear but still a good night there.everwhere you go though especially Stalis way, really good atmosphere. If you want more info about Malia go to the Original bar on Malia main road about 50 yards from the church and taxi rank the girl who works there Mandy lives in Crete but is from Swansea what she doesn't know about bars and restaurants around Malia's not worth knowing and she'll probably tell you where to avoid better than I can.
