Time for a "(not too-) heated debate". It's a shame there isn't an option for polls on this forum.
Should the EU admit Turkey into the "club"?
I think it's a great idea for many reasons.
1. Demographically, Turkey is a "young" country, contrasting with the older age profile of the longer-standing EU countries.
2. Largely, although Turkey is made up of a number of racial groups, Turkey is "European" What is the real difference in the genetic make-up of the people of Western Turkey and the Greeks who live on the islands only a few miles off-shore? Turkey is also a long-standing member of NATO
3. Turkey, although predominantly Muslim, is a secular state like ours. The EU should broaden its horizons at least partly to counter hysterical Islamophobia. Furthermore, If Turkey is shunned by the West, might it ally itself towards the hard-line muslim countries to the East instead?
4. Progression towards EU membership would continue the already great strides Turkey has made in its improvements in the area of Human Rights for its citizens
5. Entry would be dependent on a final settlement of the Cyprus problem.
6. I wouldn't have to pay £10 on entry any more.
You would never belive the amount of very unneeded red tape there is here,
you just try to bring your car here for more than 6 months and you in trouble, you then try importing it, forget that, they want a massive security deposit so you dont sell it over here, why would you sell it here ? read this
in Turkey 2001 Ford Focus Ghia Hatch Back 19,500YTL = £7,000
in England 2001 Ford Focus Ghia Hatch Back £2,300 = 7,000YTL
Can you see the numbers ?
If i was to sum up the whole countrys administration, i would say just this
THE HANDS NEVER KNOW WHAT THE FOOT IS DOING OR WHERE THE HAND IS PUTTING THE COUNTRYS MONEY, CORUPTION!
and heres the crap part, i could be put into prison for saying that, as there is no freedom of speach for ANYONE in Turkey when you are talking about the people at the top!
the eu i think is a bad thing for turkey look what its done to spain greece etc prices have really gone up i have spoken to spanish german and greek people about the eu and they all wish there counties had never joined but the euro is the worst a single currency why its no prob converting
Take a look at this. Alot of views against it and alot of views for it.
