Oh dear Julie. Hope you get sorted out! We have thought about Majorca for Christmas. Been to Lanzarote and wasn't impressed. We thought if we could get a decent hotel with good facilities in Majorca it would be better than paying over the odds for the canaries. Gx

Sol Magaulluf Park. Nice Hotel, Good Food, Indoor pool , decent entertainment.

Be aware though the weather will be cool at best in December

Wouldn't argue with Magalluf Park, or could try Antillas Sol, which is 4 star and is also in Magalluf. You don't mention the age of the children, but there is also the Santa Lucia or Son Matius in Palma Nova, although they tend not to have too many young children there.

I'm not advertising this for personal benefit (our Bar will be closed over Christmas) but wouldn't suggest you go to any other resort other than Magalluf or Palma Nova - they will be very quiet anyway, but virtually every other resort will be all but closed!

Hope you enjoy your break.

Cheers

Adam

Hi. We stayed at the Sol Magaluf Park in April and thought it was awful. We did a review re cockroaches in our rooms, the food and unbearable heat in the dining room. Can't imagine what it's like in high season.

i have actually visited magaluf twice for just a day each time wasnt struck on it loved santa ponsa and would maybe like to give palma nova a go so if anyone stayed in a hotel here please help.

Hi Pargaluvva

Sorry to hear you didn't like Magalluf Park, although I must say we normally only hear good things about it. I have heard that they kep it very warm in the hotel through the winter, although you will realise that most of their guests at that time of year are elderly.

Julie

I don't normally recommend Hotels, but we used to stay at Antillas twice a year before we came here to live, and it's worth paying the little extra to get a 4*, as Pargaluvva's comments may testify.

You don't say what time of year you visited Magalluf, but it is a completely different resort out of season - nearly all of the young bars and Clubs have closed down, but there is still quite a choice of bars and restaurants open. The same can be said of Palma Nova, but Santa Ponca. Peguera, Alcudia, Sa Coma are all but closed down out of season.

Cheers

We stayed that the jardin playa in santa ponsa. Not a bad hotel although the apartment we stayed in could have done with refurbish, which was ongoing then (2005) They did a full christmas lunch on the 25th for those who wanted it and had a heated indoor pool for the kids.

Santa Ponsa (top of the hill) wasnt exactly closed but wasnt quite open either. Cant beat sitting outside the Glasgow(?) on christams day in lovely sunshine drinking a San Miguel.

Hire car is needed definitely and if you know Mallorca its great to see it out of season. Places like Sa Coma are completely closed. Quite spooky.

Palma Nova and Maggaluf seened the busiest.

Definitely give it a try. Merry Christmas

Last year really cheap deals came available through Thomsonholidays.co.uk. My Mum and assorted nephews and nieces stayed in the Sahara in Magaluf for an average of 5€ per room per night!! Some rooms were only 1€ per night and the rooms will sleep 4 at that. The hotel is an ok self catering spot that does a Christmas programme.

Much nicer hotels that do Christmas programmes are the Son Matias Beach and the Santa Lucia. (I think maybe the Santa Lucia don't encourage children - you should check this.)

After all that I agree with Adam that the Magaluf Park seems to be the best bet for a family Christmas here.

thankyou for all your replies we have decided on the jardin de playa in santa ponsa as we had our first holiday in that part of mallorca and loved it. We know the weather wont be that good so we are going to do things we dont usually do like going to the cathederal and going to valldemossa does anyone know if the cathedral is open christmas time and if you get charged to go into it.

Hi Julie. Have you booked your holiday for Christmas yet? We are thinking of going to Majorca over Christmas and can't decide whether to book or wait to see if we can get a late deal. We went to Lanzarote last year and to be honest it wasn't worth paying the extra money for the Canaries (weather wasn't brilliant and we hated Puerto del Carmen).

Hi Julie,

The Cathedral is open over Christmas and when we there two years ago I think we paid 3 euros, but of course you can attend services which will be held to celebrate Christmas I don't think that they will charge then.

Valdemossa is certainly worth a visit and a trip on the train to Soller worthwile.

we were in Majorca a few years ago at xmas with our 2 kids(then 12 and 10) Magaluf and Palma Nova still have shops open and Palma is lovely at xmas Santa Ponsa(went there for the day) is a ghost town at Xmas everything is closed for the winter and our reps had been transfered from Alacudia as that end of the island closed for the winter to the hotels are all totaly different at xmas we stayed at the Mimosa Park the food was great and the rooms ok but in the winter they did not clean the out door parts pool area of the hotel and it stank of cat piss I would recomend you look for a hotel with an indoor pool for the kids keeps them happy as its not out door pool weather but not cold also the Soler train runs at xmas was great at that time of year Hope this helps you a bit

Hi Adam. It was during the Easter school holidays when we stayed at the Magaluf Park and to be honest we were amazed at the weather (it was beautiful every day). :D
