UK Charter airlines - First Choice Airways, Thomsonfly, MyTravel, Thomas Cook Airlines, Excel Airways do NOT accept kids on there own. Astraeus will carry kids on there own for a fee see here for more details.

Best be really is a lowcost airline or scheduled carrier.

ive just rung xl airways yesterday to ask about my son travelling to turkey next year with a friend ,the lady i spoke confirmed and checked with her supervisor for me,and i was told children 16+ can travel without anyone over 18, but if there was say 2 17year olds and a 15 year old then that wouldnt be possible, but my son will be 17 and his friend 16 and i was told that was fine there would be no problems and i wouldnt need to send consent either

Hi you may or may not know we are off on hol tomorrow to Dalaman but our 16 year old daughter cannot fly with us because her passport is not ready.(There is a post further down called GUTTED........._ which has been moved to another forum.)
Passport office have given me an indication it could be here early next week. I have been trawling the net for cheap one way flights next week so she can come out and join us.
Some airlines do not allow 16 year olds to travel without an adult!!! Even though they are considered an adult for an adult passport at 16!!! Dont get me started!!!!!!!!!!
Who knows which airlines she can travel to Dalaman with next week??

Where can I get the cheapest flight. Any London airports or East Mids or Birmingham.???

Really hope she can join us cos she was so looking forward to this break, and we feel terrible going without her, but my parents will get her the flight and to the airport straight away as soon as the passport comes.

I will ask her to log in and check the thread regularly. I am flying tom night at 9.55pm from Gatwick. Thanks in advance :)

Hi susien ... for cheap fares or late availability, it may be worth checking out the 'Flights to Dalaman' topic, which should contain some useful info and links.

Hi Susien

British Airways will take unescorted minors................there's no charge for this service, and all you need do is have a guardian escort them to the airport where they will be met by a member of BA and taken under their wing until escorted on to the plane.

The cabin crew then have responsibility of the minor (they try to seat all unescorted children together) and then ground staff at the destination airport meet them off the aircraft. They're kept under their care until the parents/guardians collect them. It's totally secure and extremey safe - the security is incredibly tight for obvious reasons.

British Airways have flights leaving Gatwick to Dalaman on Monday of next week at 15.55. One way to Dalaman is about £75.00.

Hope this helps.

Hi thanks for that Strawberry7

Do you have a direct telephone number for BA??

Whenever I have put up their site, their flights are ridiculously high.

what is the link to the site?

I believe BA now charge £32 each way for unnaccompanied minors though a 16year old would be allowed to travel on her own without taking advantage of the service.
I think booking a flight with BA at this late date would be very expensive.

You may have to resign yourself to paying a lot for the flight :( Schools all over England are on their last day and I have a feeling that a lot of folks may be looking for last minute flights to get away from this awful weather. But good luck- there are probably some bargains out there- I've looked and cant find any I'm afraid.

ps just checked http://www.thomsonfly.com and they will also take her by the looks of things http://www.thomsonfly.com/en/flywithus_2795.html.
but again £261 from luton and £270 from gatwick. both thurs 26th It was london airports you wanted wasnt it susi ???.

agree with fiona think this is going to cost . so far £111 for thomas cook is the best . if someone goes with her it will still be cheaper. :D .might be worth ringing them though to clarify that they wont take under 18.

Hi Susien ,

There are flights available next week from Gatwick with Monarch on the 25th and 27th . Their online booking system classes adults as 16+ , so your daughter should be fine travelling alone . I checked out a flight leaving Gatwick on Fri 27th and returning on Fri 3rd Aug for £ 278 including meals .

This is a link to the website .

QUICK AND IMPORTANT QUESTION, you are looking for a one way ticket going out yes? how would you be getting her back. Reason i am asking is that depending on your airline and the booking you might find that her return leg has been cancelled because she isnt taking the first leg of the journey out there. Do you see what i mean? Perhaps you have already checked this?

This has already been discussed with Susien on another posting with reference to her daughter's flight.

Worth knowing though, it happened to a friend once, he had a return ticket to France but found out friends were driving there, so he went with them and when he tried to use his ticket to fly back he found it had been cancelled because he hadn't used the outbound flight. Turned out to be an expensive trip.

i know, the other one which people used to do alot and comes up on here sometimes is the trick of buying a cheap return and only using the return leg and then buying a cheap single out (if you see what i mean? airlines wised up to this a long time ago and now cancel the return if the first leg isnt used!

We live abroad and drive on average twice a year to the UK and for a while to avoid the outrageous ferry prices we would buy a one way ticket to the Uk then a cheap day return(always cheaper than a one way) for the return journey. We did this quite a few times but finally the ferry people caught up with it and informed us that they wouldn't sell us anymore cheap day returns if we weren't going to use the return part.
Luckily Speed Ferries came in to operation and we are able to take advantage of their really good prices.
Sorry for going of topic.

Turkish airlines allow minors to fly unacompanied, my friend lives in marmaris and her daughter who is now 14 travels to england every july on her own, and goes back in september because of the heat there.
