Caleta Dorada in Fue. Some of the reviews sing its praises but its the worst holiday weve ever had.

The 300 quid paid for a day out at Chester Zoo and a weekend in skeg vegas. We had a better time doing this that the fortnight we spent at this resort :rofl

we booked a holiday with first choice for next may, when we booked it most of the reviews were good, anyway the last couple of weeks the reviews have been coming back horrendous, so i contacted first choice due to my concerns who told me they had sent me a letter a few weeks ago which i never received saying there had been a lot of changes to my accommodation on the all inclusive side of things and due to this they would change me to another hotel, resort, date etc free of charge if i wanted, i was relieved about this and over the last week or so ive been looking and couldnt find anything suitable, so i rang them the other day and said is there any change of cancelling my holiday instead ,she said she needed to get back to me and ask her supervisor and sure enough within an hour she did and authorised a cancellation and refund of my deposit, although ill see how long it takes to come through i was very pleased with the outcome and didnt expect them to allow me a refund, this is my first holiday booked with first choice and it hasnt put me off as i thought of this occasion they were reasonable !!!

your relief reminds me of the phrase "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king" (or something similar).

You're pleased that a company to whom you paid a deposit in good faith some time back has changed your holiday out of all recognition, failed to ensure the letter (they say) they sent you was received and are prepared to refund you - but haven't yet done so.

It's the bare minimum they are obliged to provide - the thought they may charge you for a cancellation is, sadly, prominent in passenger's minds as a result of the (generally) atrocious manner in which (some) holiday companies manage their affairs.

You should receive your refund within 72 hours - charge them interest on the sum otherwise.

they told me 7-10 days for a refund , i really dont know exactly what has happened as i didnt receive the letter, but a few of my other letters have recently gone missing too grr from other sources so im giving them the benefit of doubt about that. the reason im pleased is i went into a travel agents recently not connected with first choice explained what i had been told byt first choice over the phone and asked them if they thought i would get a refund if i wanted want and they told me i wouldnt as the hotel has changed the all inc times and its not first choices fault and hotels can rightly change things and there was nothing that could be done and im lucky first choice offered a holiday change free of charges, so thats why i was pleased, i really dont know where i stood as things in the travel as so complicated as to what rights you have, its a mind field !! so when i asked if i could have a refund i was surprised

Hi Karen

Must admit I was really suprised when you posted that they had offered you a full refund. I think it's a bit of a result (well so long as you get the cheque!)

I thought they would only let you transfer to another one of their own holidays to keep the money in the Company.

Your so right, it is a bit of a minefield out there when it comes to travel and the law.
