I will post some pictures of our accomadation over the weekend to give readers a visual insight into the damp conditions we had to endure while staying here. We had booked 3 nights but on the second morning packed our bags and left.
The room was musty and i thought ok, lets air the room. That night the smell became worse and i noticed that my bed clothers were damp and stained. I awoke that morning with slightly damp hair. My daughter who hasn't used her inhaler in 5 years was now starting to cough and required a puff. All our clothes were damp and smelled musty.
Upon further inspection all the quilts were stained damp, the walls were damp and mould was growing around the window. We went to go outside at 6.30 am as we could not stand the dampness anymore and noticed that it was infact warmer outside than in our room. All 3 of us were sick over the following 5 days from staying at Rolfs.
A lot of the other guests were complaining that their room was musty and damp. I for one would never stay at Rolfs again and will be sening off my photos of the room to Board failte and putting in a formal complaint.
Rolfs holidays is located in a very pretty location, the restaurant is nice along with the food although over priced- some of the locals were complaining! Its such a shame that they cannot provide warm, clean damp free accommadtion to their guests.
They will be hearing from me shorty as i am requesting my money back for the nights we did not stay. They were uninterested when we raised our concerns and told them why we were leaving. I assume they thought as were well from the uk it was safe to keep our money. Unfortunatley for them we have family firends living in the area and as baltimore is such a small place it wont be long till our story gets around!
I know this place well, it started life about 25 years as a simple backpacker hostel and camp site. Over the years they have built it up and most of the acomodation is new, however some parts of the building are the old farmhouse cottage and you may have been unlucky in the room you recieved.
On my recent visits to West Cork I have rented self catering accomodation There is a lot of avalability in Baltimore, and it is getting a little crowded. For a quieter more relaxing holiday try nearby Castletownshend. There is a new development of holiday homes called the lawn and I can highly recomend it. We stayed at a house called Ashgrove see http://www.westcorkhouse.com but there are a number of others on the net also avalable.
