One thought - the fiesta in Santa Ponca was this past week and I think it is the same time each year. That might well be a good reason for destination choice at this time of year. We are of a similar age and I think I would always pick Santa Ponca over Palma Nova and Alcudia.

PS what little cloud there was this morning has cleared down here in the SW and we have wall to wall blue and temps that will climb from 27 now to around 32 later - so the weather at this time can be great!

Hi There

I have been to Alcudia several times but last year we went to the Hawaii Hotel in Palm Nova. We absoloutely loved it there. The location was great and you were away from all the lound night life. Alcudia is also superb so I dont think you can go wrong with any of the resorts.

Helen,

Been to Alcudia and back today. I would say all three resorts are equally busy. Today all three have glorious sunshine and about 31/32 degrees.

In all the shops etc are all still fully open. I don't know Alcudia very well but the fiesta would tip it for me if the accomodation prices work out!

So would it be fair to say that Palma Nova doesnt attract the 18-30 crowd? Is the beach as nice as Alcudia?Am I right in assuming that the further from where it meets Magaluf the less noisier it would be?

Between Magaluf and Palma Nova you have an area called Torrenova. If the address is Palma Nova it does not suffer from the Magaluf influence.

Neither does most of Torrenova. Magaluf, in terms of noise etc is actually quite concentrated on the 'Strip' (Punta Balena). It's not as awful as it's painted. You should have a wander there one evening about 11 ish. Lots of high spirits but no trouble to speak of!!!

All three beaches are good. From Palma Nova beach you can easily walk to Magaluf beach which is pretty good too.

Sorry Helen, don't know anything about these apartments. Will ask around over next few days and see if anyone has first hand info. I think Calabonagirl was asking about these as well.

Hi Helen
My choice would be Palmanova, having been to both resorts you mentioned. Do not be afraid of Magaluf in September as many of the younger crowd have gone. Both Palmanova and Magaluf will have plenty of night life for couples.
Yes try Palmanova and give some of the good bars (Goodfellows for example) in Magaluf a try

september is great for couples , as most kids are back at school and most stag and hen doo's are over , some bar owners told me august was quiet as the airlines overprice the flights as kids off school , but looking at last week its picking back up for the mature holidaymakers

I am also thinking about Palma Nova/Santa Ponsa for next summer. We are a family of four going in the school hols next summer (late July probably). This year we went to Playa de Muro just outside of Alcudia which was lovely with a great beach and lots of bars and restaurants but not too busy, I thought Alcudia itself was very busy and noisy. Having been there twice I'd like a change of scene, somewhere not too busy but with a great beach, would Santa Ponsa or Palma Nova be a good choice?

We're just back from Palma Nova and stayed in the Nova Apartments which is in an area called Son Matias ( I think!).
The beaches at Plma Nova are BEAUTIFUL. We (Husband , wife & 2 kids 3&6) love the beach and spent nearly every day down there.
Not too crowded, lovely white sand, bath warm water, lot's of small fish, pontoons anchored in the water 100 or so feet out and lovely to swim to and dive off. Pedlo's, beautiful yachts in the bay, a lovely promenade, good quality places to eat.
I didn't see any madser mc mads at night time and one night we even strayed into Magaluf by accident and found it to be lively but not full of lunatics (we didn't stay for a drink though.
I don't know Alcudia but I do know you won't be dispointed with the beaches in Palma Nova.

The swimming sounds great, is there no problem with jellyfish then?
How do you rate the Nova apartments?, I cant see any reviews of them. Is there anywhere else inthe area that looks nice to stay, we like to go self catering?

I have been to palma nova for the last 2 years with my partner and our kids 12&8 we stayed both times in the Aquasol apartments we booked direct with the hotel itself and saved well over £400. The apartments are just 5 minutes walk from the beach and stand on their own with no hotels either side, the only problem is that there are a lot of steps. air conditioning was fitted last year and is great in July-august , you do get some people making a bit of noise clomping up the stairs but other than that I had no problem. We always go self catering so don't know what the food is like.their website is http://www.aquasol.info.
