Johnboyab,

Is Turkish prices actually dearer than Spain and Greece? I have heard Turkey has got much more expensive but how much exactly

What would a 3 course meal for 2 peeps with bottle of wine in typical resort restaurant cost? Some say you can eat for as little as £10 a day but that's gotta be burgers surely?
Reply
hi there you can live on kebabs and burgers for £10 a day but a meal in a nice restuarant will be comparable to prices at home.friends of mine are just back and that is what they found also.efes beer in a lot of bars is dearer than it is in the local weatherspoons. but it is a different story outside resort centers where prices are less than half resort prices and food is of the traditional turkish style. there are cheap places in the resorts but a look inside the kitchen tells you why. good establishments are proud of their kitchens and will show you round. turkey is a great place to holiday its just not as cheap as chips anymore.

Groovy baby,
as with every resort, the prices really do deopend where you are eating.

i was in Kusadasi in jun/jul this year & we only spent around £200 for food & drink for the week (2 adults) we mainly ate evening meals in the Ladies beach area & we were getting a 2 course meal with drinks for less than £15.

For lunch we were eating at turkish locantas, costing only a few pounds per meal (salads, pide, bread soft drinks etc)

If you eat in the centrum area at the popular restuarants (Planet Yacca, golden boys, saray etc) you will be paying similar prices to what you do at home. the meals here are good, but they are no better than the places at Ladies beach who are half the price.

Drinks are also half the price in the ladies beach area.

Hi mrfrostie, we returned this morning having had two weeks at the Fortin Hotel which is near the Tur. Its location is in the Friday Market area where also the wednesday Market is held. The reports about The Tur were not good but close by, you have got The Filling Station Restaurant whose doors are open to everyone. As for Bars, I cannot help you but as has been said before, Bar Street is the place to head for. Ramazan started on Sunday and sometime between the hours of 2am and 4am, drums will sound to tell people to eat before sunrise, then of course at around 5am the Mosque will give its first call for people to come to pray. You asked about quiet beaches, we were told that Pygale and Long Beach are ideal, not that we went there ourselves as we are not beach people.

Other Restaurants we used were Toros(near where the Cruise Ships pull in), Avlu, Lezzet Evi, Aylin, Saray, Michaels Place and Kalyon although we enjoyed the meals at these establishments. The Filling Station was our favourite for excellence of food, service, hospitality and friendliness to all their customers in a relaxed atmosphere.

If you want to treat yourself to some jewelery, we had excellent service from FULL Jewelery(ask for Aylin), also most helpful but without pressurising you into buying were NARSIS(they have three shops) and ANASTASIA(near Burger King on opposite side of road. Ask for Tim.). Hope this has been of some use to you and that you have a great holiday.

Hi Corrine

Prices are still very reasonable...you pay anything from 2.5TL to 5TL for a beer in bars and restaurants..but Bar Street charges 8!
Regarding eating out my favourite restaurant is Dejazar where you can get a 2 course set menu (with 4 choices of main course) for 19.50TL. Food is excellent and has the poshest loo's in town. ;)
Lots of nice restaurants along the beachfront at Ladies Beach...my favourite there being The Kiwi. For turkish food try Lezzet Evi and the Avlu.
Where are you staying?

Hi dont know if it helps .. but my cousin was in Kusadasi in sept 20008 and she thought it was expensive. She was comparing this to Marmaris July 2008.

We're staying at the Charisma on a half board basis and have 3 day trips out with lunch included so we won't be eating out in Kusadasi much. I'll bear your suggestions in mind though. Can you give me any ideas on what else we can do in the area?

Great choice of hotel! The dolmus which passes by the hotel goes to both of the large water parks in the resort. At Adaland (apparently 2nd largest waterpark in Europe) you can swim with dolphins..they also have a sea-life show twice a day; It's a fantastic place. The other one is Aqua Fantasy.

Your hotel is at the end of the marina...so plenty of good restaurants in the area; plus you are only 5 minutes walk away from my favourite restaurant that I mentioned in my other post.

It's now 17 days until we go so I am starting to get excited. Can anyone tell me if there are any excursion company offices in Kusadasi? We'd like to go on a jeep tour if possible.

There were loads all over the place when we went back in 2003. Our party used one by the main bus stop in the centre of town and there was a large operator which I thought was called on the lines of Sammys travel just to the south of the main dock. (On the way to pigeon island)

Searching the web does reveal a Sammys Travel which does trips in the Kusidasi area but there is no local office details and the about us page says it is based in NZ!
Their website will give you an idea of the trips available.

If you are thinking of Ephasus or the local water parks, look into the local Selcuk Dolmus as that is a cheap option as it passes Ephasus which is then just a 1/2 mile walk up the hill from the bus stop, giving you as much free time there as you want. The dolmuses also pass the water parks, although they also used to do their own free transport.

Hi Steve

Thanks for that link - it's really helpful. I'm not sure it will be warm enough to go to the water parks at Easter but we'll see! We are already going to Ephesus and a few over the other roman sites as we are actually doing a tour holiday with Voyages Jules Verne - see http://www.vjv.com/destinations/europe/turkey/turkish-meander/index.html for details. I'll do a full report when I get back.

Looks Good. The middle picture on the itinerary page is Cleopatra's Pool. You will probably have to pay for drinks with the trip meals and extra to go in to the pool so make sure you have enough money on you. A couple on our trip had been given the wrong price by the JMC rep and so had to wait outside until the tour guide took pity and lent them some money. Once inside there are some changing rooms to the right and there is a shallow way into the pool.
Around the corner on the left is a direct way into the deeper end of the pool. We were taken straight in to the left and weren't told about the two entrances. We only saw the deep entrance which led to me nigh on drowning trying to help the mother in law (non swimmer) get through the deep bit to where she could stand. You can get across the rocks easily in single file! Found out afterwards the properties of the water are effective through imbibing not soaking, ie you are supposed to drink it! Probably why I still have the same aches and pains.

We did Aphrodisias rather than Hierapolis so can't give any clues on that one. At the terraces you used to have to take your footware off and leave it at the top while you wandered down. I remember my sensitive feet hated the little stones so it took me much longer to get down and back then I allowed for. Don't spend too much time there if you want to go in the pool though.
Some of our party did a jeep safari from Kusi, visiting a small village where they went into a house and had tea with some locals. They enjoyed the day immensely but as we didn't go I can't fill in any blanks.
On the path to pigeon island there are many boats that do day trips but whether the sea will be warm enough is another matter.

Hello

Me and my sister (30 & 22) are looking for a holiday in Sept 2010. Turkey seems to be coming within our price range and we've found what seems to be a good deal at staying at the Fortin Hotel in Kusadasi. We're just looking for some advice as to whether the resort would suit us. We'd only be going for 1 week so just want somewhere we can chill out on a decent beach, have some nice meals out and a few drinks on an evening. We're not into clubbing till the early hours but don't want somewhere too quiet either. I've read the resort reports on this forum and think it seems to fit the bill, would you agree? Also if anyone has stayed in the Fortin Hotel any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks
Claire

For hotel report go to top of forum, click on Hotel Reviews, click on Turkey and then scroll down to the Hotel, there are plenty of reports, including mine. When you Book up, make sure you arrive AFTER the 9th as Ramadan will be over(see my hotel review). If you want anymore info don't hesitate to ask.
