Hi folks, just came back from our hols for a week in Durban Corbieres, in the Midi Pyrenees staying at my brothers house, we visited Narbonne, Grussian, The African Reserve, Largrasse, Carcassone, Leucate Plage, Elne, Collioure, Villefranche de Conflent and the Le Petit de Jaune Train through the Pyrenees.
Very enjoyable, we had a hire car from Hertz picked up from Perpignan Airport and flew Ryanair for the first time.
The African Reserve and the Le Petit de Jaune were the highlights of our trip.
The downside was the narrow bendy roads, sheer drops and some in a minority crazy drivers.
Phil.
Glad to hear you had a good holiday Satman.
I've posted on here already regarding Collioure as a holiday base for next summer & have had lots of positive feedback. I think I'd like to be in small town on the sea. Do you think this would be a good choice?
Plenty of restuarants and shops, one of the mid town roads was closed to all through traffic due to the street market being held on the day we visited.

Okay you have a full tank when you start, but when you go to put a full tank in your car for the return, the petrol station is only on one side of the dual carriageway going away from the airport towards Narbonne.
Also we do not realise how lucky we are in the UK, when it comes to buying vegetables, here you can get everything, tangerines, clementines, manderines, oranges, everything, not so where we were in France, only oranges, also trying to buy spinach (epinards), not loose but in packs and only in the Carrefour which is located at Narbonne Plage and Perpignan outside the city.
By the way the N9 is a continuation of the D900 out of Perpignan, but is marked on the map ( Michelin Regional France 525) we were using, as the N9. The road side markings currently read D900.
While in France we had the use of a "TAG" device my brother had loaned us for the A9 Peage, we tried to use it once, but it did not work, we only used the motorway once, the N routes are great.
Phil.
Thansk for the info. The traffic is the only downside that I've heard about & it must be bad if it's still choc-a-bloc in September, but I'm still kinda keen. I suppose if we were based there, some days we wouldn't have to use the car at all. Sounds a lovely part of the world.
Went twice to Cullioure by car, in September, no parking.
