the main centre of marmaris is as alive as ever, its only the tourist area that shuts.. weather can be nice during the day but wrap up well at night..make sure where you stay has adequate heating.
we have been the last 2 xmas/new years and the weather was around 16-20 approx, with the odd bit of rain, it does get cold at night and winter coats are needed, the year before last the weather was so nice we were in t shirts and sitting outside eating wheares last year wasnt so warm so its pot luck, but one things for sure its warmer than the uk lol, nov can be lovely my mother lives there and said last nov was gorgeous again its pot luck. the old town area near marina etc is all open but the big strip of bars restaurants etc are mainly closed with the odd shop open here and there. i personally prefer marmaris in the winter
Now I'm a real Icmeler lover and there is nowhere like it as far as I'm concerned, it's almost a second home now I've been that many times. But due to Icmeler being pretty much all closed down we stayed in Marmaris.
I don't like Marmaris in the summer as it's far too busy and noisy but found it lovely in the winter with plenty of people around as it's not so much a seaonsal place like Icmeler is.
There were quite a few bars/restaurants open around the marina - and a couple of days it was warm enough to eat breakfast outisde in the sunshine.
However, it rained a couple of days and boy when it rains it rains - the roads were like rivers (that was in Icmeler mind) would have needed Welly boots to go out in it!
I found the weather to be like a normal spring in the UK - you won't need thick winter coats - I just took a light leather jacket (and umberella) and that was fine (though the Turks will always maintain it's freezing when it's really quite mild to us!)
If you were going to Istanbul you'd certainly need yer thermals!
Have a great time if you go!
