Hi Rubence,

There is a bit of nightlife in Calan Forcat but not too much and August is very much family time.

I would save menorca for the future and try a quietish resort in either majorca ( probaly the best choice ) or Ibiza.

Kind Regards

Hello there, my name is Jose, i was born in Menorca and have lived in Calan Porter for a long time, but have spend lots of winters in London.

Anyway, in response to your question about if there is any nightlife in Menorca in August, the clear answer is YES. To every other one who has been here in holidays and says that there is no night life, is because they have'nt look properly.

As a local, and being young, 28, im a bit fed up with the old topic of Menorca is an island for families and for older people. There is in fact lots of families, and old people, but i can tell you for a fact that there are lots and lots of bars, pubs and clubs, you only need to know where you are going to find them. Calan porter for example has one of the best clubs in Europe, called Cova den Xoroi, http://www.covadenxoroi.com with different nights like Urban Flava on Tuesdays, Freeestyle on wednesdays, Foam party on thursdays, Ibizaabla every 2 weeks, Playhouse every two weeks, Italian Dolce vita every monday.

The problem is that the people that normally writes reports in this sort of holiday report websites has never ever been out to them nights !!! Calan porter has a great night bar-pub-club, called Flava Bar, with pool tables, live dj, cocktails, shots, its pack everynight of the summer but again you wont find anyone that has been there writing reports in this websites.

Seriously, there is plenty of bars and pubs and clubs in Menorca, and all we need is a few more people on their 20's to come and find out the truth, and get rid of that old topic of family island.

Anyway, also check http://www.urbanflavamenorca.com and if you need to know anything else let me know.

Jose.

Some of us like it just as it is!!!

The nightlife is very low key and lets hope it doesnt take off and spoil a wonderfull island and become majorca 2!!!!

Just back from Cala n' Bosch would not recommend for a young couple looking to a bit of life in the evening unless you want to go on go karts and bouncy castles our kids loved it but they are 3 and 8, this resort is most definitely for families.

This will not ever be like Majorca or Ibiza, however, the nightlife is here and has been here for ages, the thing is that the families that come obviously dont look for nights out, but im just saying that the young people wanting to come here on holidays, will not be disappointed if they know where they are going and if they want to go out and have a great night out, they will be able to.

You know, the problem with only bringing families with children to this island is that most of the families try to save their money, cause of the kids, and they basicaly do: Beach - Supermarket - Hotel Entertaiment - Home. ( some do not, but this is a common saying around here). And what happens with the inmense ammount of bars and pubs and stuff? back on the day this use to be a lot busier not because yobs where coming, but because a lot more couples and respectble people on their twenties early thirties use to come on holidays. Since this has been targeted as a family island, lots of pubs and bars and clubs have become quiet, but since a couple of years on, private bar, pubs and clubs owners have realised this cannot only be a family island if they are to survive so
this really needs to change a bit, and its actually changing, not radicaly, no one wants this to be ibiza or mallorca, because we have got a "paradise" now, but what im trying to say is that we do want some more young people to visit the island, people that does not have to worry about kids, and that can stay out for a few drinks or for a few meals, if you know what i mean. In ¡fact, Calan Porter is a large resort, and it caters perfectly for families with kids, and for great nights out.

Thanks.

Jose.

I think that the over priced flights have not helped, then people do watch thier money, as they have paid more to get there.

Most people save all year round for a holiday, and I'm sure that if you look around its the DIY ers that have possibly over taken the package holiday, you see this just by looking at the amount of property rentals from brits who have bought places there.

Also, we have had the introduction of the Euro which has not helped as the prices have shot up, so it is no longer a cheap place when you get there either.

We have been coming over for 10 years, since our youngest was 9 months old, the first 3 in a hotel, that went downhill each year we stayed there, ok so now they have spent loads of money doing it up, but the restaurant is like a cattle market and the food isnt much better. So we DIY now, and there are so many properties to choose from.

For me, a holiday is not one where I cook at all!!!, I like to be spoilt and to eat out all the time.
