Hi
There will be 4 of us ( all girls ) going to york next year, does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere to stay, our requirements are
.Serves Breakfast
.Clean & Comfortable
.Ensuite Bathrooms
.Parking 2 cars
.City Centre location
Any help and ideas on what we can do to amuse ourselves in York would be much apprecaited.
Kerri
You might find less choice within the walls and if you do it'll be expensive. It will also be expensive and hard to find an hotel at Christmas, Easter etc so go out of season.
As for finding something to do then you shouldn't need to look very far. Countless places to visit. York Minster, Jorvik, York Castle Museum, the Railway museum, Shopping in the Shambles, walk the walls (early in the morning - glorious)
Plenty of clubs 'n pubs too.
You'll have no problem enjoying Englands finest City.

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk. we always stay at the blue bridge hotel . its a decent , clean and you get a lovely breakfast even though its only rated as 2 stars but it is a 10 minute walk into the centre along the river which we enjoy but this may not suit you.
plenty of pubs ,clubs and historic places to visit . you might enjoy an evening ghost tour as well . these are really popular with all ages over the weekend. they all start around 8 oclock and last for around an hour and a half from various locations in the centre then you could hit the pub/club afterwards

hi kerri - We have been to York several times and love it there. As harriers says there is certainly no shortage of hotels and B+bs.Its worth mentioning that Most of the hotels and b+bs in the city centre only take bookings for 2 nights at weekends. There are plenty of decent B+Bs . you can filter through and find the ones with the best reviews for your budget on plenty of pubs ,clubs and historic places to visit . you might enjoy an evening ghost tour as well . these are really popular with all ages over the weekend. they all start around 8 oclock and last for around an hour and a half from various locations in the centre then you could hit the pub/club afterwards

we were in york in may and had a brilliant time, we stayed at the Queens hotel which is right on the river, bang in the middle of things, the food was first class,
Myself and three friends go to York for a weekend every year and stay at the Ramada Encore - 2 minutes walk into city centre. Rooms are modern with en suite wet room. Good buffet breakfast included or you can pay extra for cooked breakfast. The only problem is no car parking on site - you do get a discount at a multi storey car park just round the corner but the last three years we have just taken the train - a 5-10 minute walk from the station to the hotel and saves the hassle of driving into the city centre.
Should have also said that we had the biggest laugh last year when visiting York Dungeon - we screamed like idiots at the slightest noise or movement but great fun.
i went to york a few months ago with my girlfriend for a weekend and we stayed at the elmbank hotel it was five minutes from the city centre where we walked to and back from both nights, it was clean very reasonably priced and our room was huge! highly recommed it!!
I realise this thread is a bit old but it's just what I've been looking for as I'm hoping to take my daughters on a city break to either York or Bath :o)
In addition to any info you might pick up here in the City Breaks forum, you may also like to check these topics in our UK & Ireland forum:

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to post in those topics to hopefully catch the attention of locals, or holidaymakers who have visited those cities.

Thanks David
How old are they? And do they like Dr Who? Cardiff can be good for kids but the main city centre street gets a bit rowdy on weekend nights (so much so that they now close it to traffic) so you need to pick the right hotel. if you want to take this further it might be an idea to start an new thread of "Weekend in Cardiff" to keep the forum tidy.
Sorry for the delay in replying steve - yes, we all like Doctor Who (and Torchwood) and that is one of the reasons we want to go lol however, it's now not going to happen this summer as we can't find dates when we're all free - kids eh??
