Turunc? or ?

If you're looking for a small, quiet resort with all the stuff you mention, then Turunc would be a good choice. Other HT members will probably also suggest you look at Akyaka, Bitez and Cirali, all of which meet your criteria. Turunc restaurants tend towards the "generic European menu", in my opinion. Akyaka is the best I've found for authentic Turkish food.

From what people have written this year, the smaller resorts seem to be cheaper than Marmaris, Bodrum etc. But Turkey is very good value wherever you go, compared to EU countries.

Just over the mountain is Icmeler, a beautiful place, then there is Kalkan, another cozy place. Wherever you go in Turkey, the people are always friendly and helpful. A marvellous race who love nothing more than to converse with you. If you can speak a few words of Turkish then this will help as well. To make a friend of a Turk, is to make a friend for life !! Once you've been to Turkey, you won't want to go back to Greece. We have nothing against the Greek people, we love them as much as we do the Turkish. It is just that we have become hooked on Turkey, just like many other people on this Forum. Give it a try !!

Although I think larger than those mentioned Dalyan is a nice place. Small, friendly with glorious surroundings, everywhere in Dalyan is walking distance, plenty of good restaurants and self-catering places.

Have a look at http://www.dalyanholiday.co.uk to see the area, some of the restaurants, hotels and villa rentals - including a really nice traditional cottage.

Zebedee,

I am a Marmaris fan myself but from what you describe I think Turunc would be ideal for you. Have visited it several times on boat trips and while I know it's only for a couple of hours the place impresses. No matter what, as everyone will say on this Forum you will not regret chosing Turkey.

akyaka is perfect for what you want, quiet with a lovely beach, lovely riverside area too with restaurants, only 50 mins from dalaman airport, marmaris is 20 miles away so ideal for a day trip. prices are a fair bit cheaper than most of the main resorts, ive put some photos of akyaka in the gallery so have a look its pretty and the people are very friendly

The only down-side about Turunc is the beach isn't that great. But it is a lovely place.

Personally I think icmeler has the perfect mix - great beach and not too lively, suitable for all ages and there are some lovely places you can walk to to get away from a the hustle of the centre.
The good thing about Icmeler is that all music in the bars must be turned off at midnight so you never really get a problem with noise.

Akyaka is beautiful - I think if was really wanting to get away from it all I would choose Akyaka over Turunc.

although i love icmeler i dont think its what they are after they want a quiet small place with turkish restaurants etc, icmeler doesnt fall into this category, its a medium sized resort and caters very much for the holiday makers, shops selling loads of fakes etc and has quite a few lively bars and ive never found what i call a turkish restaurant either,it sounds like they are after a more traditional turkish style resort, thats why i recommended akyaka as it does get more turkish visitors ,doesnt have loud bars,or shops selling fakes and has lovely turkish restaurants scenery is gorgeous and not too far from the airport, im sure other people will recommend other small quiet resorts so you can compare them all

have a read up on the resorts that you have been recommended before you make any decisions, as everyones idea of holidays is different. good luck

I would have to agree that Turunc sounds the perfect place for you. We have also been to some of the smaller resorts mentioned, and they all have their best features and not so good features, but we have never been disappointed with any of them! I agree that lovely as it is Icmeler may not be what you are looking for. If you choose Turunc, I am sure you will not be disappointed!

Dont forget Kas and Kalkan, as well as Dalyan..... Dalyan is very flat, so good for people who can't cope with hills.......
