I think many hotels still have the machines...Hotel Cimbel certainly does and the small bar area in there is still smoking too! ...as is the Bar at the Hotel Victoria!

Bet "The human chimney" is well pleased about that :rofl :rofl

Rosie ... one single box of safety matches may be allowed, but it would be best to verify this with your airline or airport, as some variations in restrictions are being applied around the country.

Current hand luggage restrictions are discussed in THIS thread in our Airlines & Airports forum.

Hi everyone. We just returned home today. No problems taking lighters thru' security, we had them in our pocket and you can smoke at gate 11 in alicante airport

Hi

Was that both ways.?..the lighters I mean, because I found that lighters were not allowed on the outbound flight, but on the inbound flight and in this case departing from Spain, then I could have had a dozen on me.
Based on last month.

Current regulations may state otherwise. Please check with your individual airline or airport. For general discussion on current restrictions, please use the link in my post above.

Hi, this has probably been answered a while ago but had a quick flick through previous pages and couldnt see anything. We are going to Benidorm in Jan staying at the Rosamar, approx 28 of us (inc 4 teens) we were there at the same time last year and the smoking situation seemed to be a very grey area, as it was coming into effect July this year. Could anyone let us know if you can smoke in the larger entertainment bars and are teens (under 16) allowed in if you can smoke, also the smaller bars that have opted to become smoking are kids not allowed in these.

FYI

There is a Cig Machine in Morgans Tavern - thank god!!

It was my savior!!

When I was there in October they seemed to be allowing smoking in all the bars that I went in and there were young children in them, including some in pushchairs.

Came back last Saturday. Did not find any restrictions in the bars we visited, Morgans, Zodiac, The Town, Valentines, Steptoes 1, Western and a few others. I had understood that children were not allowed in 'smoking bars' but this did not seem to be the case .In several of them children, some even in pushchairs were there. In the Zodiac a foul mouthed so called comedian even incorporated them into his act.
In the Hotel Levante Club, Ashtrays were in rooms and the Dickens Bar allowed smoking.
At Alicante airport on our return journey I had misread a post about a post about smoking being allowed at Gate 11. We walked as far as we could in the direction of the higher gate numbers (not sure about Gate Numbers) and found several people smoking. We had 4 hours to our flight and had a few cigs before an official ordered us to stub out.
We had the impression that is was because people were flicking ash and stubbing out cigarettes on the floor causing a problem for the cleaners (we had used a coffee cup with liquid as an ashtray) I think if people could be more respecful problems may not arise

is ther smoking areas at alicante airport or not?bit confusing with all the replies, one i notice says gate 11 another says they were told to put them out.

Hi Oldies - Alicante Airport is now supposed to be officialy Non Smoking. However people are still sneeking crafty ones down near gates 10/11, where the Smoking Area used to be. I suppose because its usually quieter down there, and theycan usually get away with a few. Right in the corner near those red screens is where most people go, in fact there was a large planter there on our last visit, which was providing a "useful" ashtray!

Julie and I flew back from Alicante last Sunday. Yes, the large, unlit, deserted area beyond the back wall of the "British Pub" seems to have become an "unofficial" smoking area. Here are a few observations. I would say that because it seems unused, (although there are plenty of seats), the 'suits' turn a blind eye. An important point, get a cup of coffee or something, leave a bit of liquid in the bottom, use this as an ashtray, then, when you have stocked up your nicotine fix for the flight, find a bin. Also, be discreet, it is easy to be unseen in this area. I noticed that some people had used the floor as an ashtray, well, the 'suits' won't turn a blind eye for much longer if people keep doing this. A tip - Nicotine Gum is a very effective substitute if you have to go for a few hours without a cigarette.
