We are off to Goa in 3 weeks depart Manchester 13th Nov We were booked into the Palmarinha Resort in Calangute, have heard today that it is due to undergo major refurb while we are there. First Choice have changed our hotel with upgrade to all inc at Victor Exotica in Candolim(wouldn't have chosen it but if it's free -hey who cares!)
Has anyone else been affected by this and where have you been moved to?
Anyone staying here at this time and not been informed oficially, suggest you get on the phone now!
Quick go out and Buy a lotto ticket while your lucks in
Candolim is a quieter area than Calungute but full of nice little surprises!
I have had a few friends stay there before it went all inclusive, and not had a bad report (maybe a bit short on sunbeds if you want the pool all day) but it is in a good position to get to the beach - out of the hotel to the main road turn right - 200yards cross over road and take the beach road down past the Whispering Palms / Sunset Hotel and Mermaid Restaurant, less than 10 mins at the most.
My mates meeting me there and was booked into the Palmarhina, they have moved him to our hotel Lagoa Azul!
Don't know the Palmarhina but the Victor Exotica is good. Certainly quieter than Calangute but you're near the heart of Candolim and everywhere's a taxi ride away!
Going to Candolim for 1st time, can anyone recommend shacks, restaurants or anything else of interest there which we should not miss?
Hi - ilovegoa, we have been going to Candolim for the last 6 years, you will be spoilt for choice as far as restaurants, would recommend the Mermaid, the Sunset Bistro, Micos, Green Jacket, Angara, Inferno, Mango Grove, Sea shell and the Casa Sea Shell and many many more, there are some good bars, we like the Countryside Inn above the Taste of China restaurant, if you like karaoke there's the Teama and and Ruffles. Which hotel are you staying at, we go on the 27th Nov with Firstchoice, staying at the Silver Sands. There are loads of good shacks on the beach we like Sam's Paradise and also Ganesh shack. Hope this helps.
Thought I would treat myself to a decent hotel over the Christmas holiday, emailed the Victor Exotica they came back with US$250 over the Christmas/New-year week US$150 any other time.
Is that for the week
no per day full board tho
Hi Lez! Wow what a price!!! You could almost buy your own place for that sort of money! Idea! Why not get a sleeping bag and doss down on The River Princess! Loads of room, great views, quiet, plenty of shacks on your doorstep!!!! you being an old sea dog an all! Ha!
yes Alan (Gramps) and I where thinking of fixing the engine and driving it off the beach
Thats a lot of money. You wont be able to sleep. I am afraid it will have to be 24 hours a day eating and drinking of the finest to get some moneys's worth if its all inc.
victor exotica very good, as for restaurants, most of the ones previousley mentioned are turning right from the hotel towards calangute, don't miss trying a walk to the left, Flambe is good, Stonehouse can be good but suffers from off nights and one where you need to book usually is next door to stonehouse, cant remember the name but it is a ladies name (something like Claudias but may be getting that mixed up with the beach shack) also a v. good Swiss/ Italian opposite side of road heading towards the Kingfisher Villa.

Thanks everyone for your tips on restaurants in the area, so many to choose from only wish we were there for more than a week, but restricted due to work If we don't get to visit them all it'll be a great excuse to go back again (not that we've needed one before!)
Have looked at the weather and seen temps of 42,l ets hope it stays like that!!-
ps- am failrly new to this, thanx everyone for being so friendly and helpful
The swiss / italian past the kingfisher is called Santa Lucia and your right, the food is superb
Del949, I think the one near Stonehouse, (which I agree with you can be bad for both food and service on an off nite!) The one with the ladys name is Cecilias, owned and run by Cecilia,
Gin Lizzy/Johnny G,
