Try the Iberostar Grand Azur - the hotels in the Iberostar chain are always wheelchair friendly; and this was no exception.

Good food & lovely hotel.

Recommend you book hotel & flights separately as may well work out quite a bit cheaper (XL.com for flights and Findmeaccom.com for hotel, then arrange a private transfer or taxi - shouldn't be excessive)

Hi,

I had a client before who had two children on wheelchair and a couple more people on their group was also disabled and they stayed at the Grand Ideal Hotel on the main street. I know they didn't have any problems and they must have been happy with the hotel as they decided to get married at the hotel too :) They have a website on http://www.hotelideal.com

I will second the Grand Ideal, ive stayed there and it is a lovely hotel BUT
the lifts are very dodgy, they break down constantly and there are only 3 for the whole of the Hotel/aparts, so if you are interested in it then make sure you get a ground floor room.

I think their disabled rooms are located on the ground floor.

I sat next to a lady who used a wheelchair on a flight from Dalaman last month. She stayed at the Sunrise hotel in Marmaris which had been recommended to her by another wheelchair user. The hotel is situated near to the Iberostar and is right on the beach. They stayed BB but found plenty of good resturants nearby along the beach path which were accessible. The reviews are excellent and score highly mostly 10/10.

Hi,

My partner is disabled, and whilst not confined to a wheelchair I am aware of the issues that you may face.

I can recommend hotels such as Club Anastasia, or Green Park in the Arumtalan area of marmaris as they both are suitable for wheelchair access.

What may proove to be difficult for you mum however is getting around. The roads in Marmaris are designed to handle mass amounts of water during the winter, therefore many have high kurbs. Not an issue for an able bodied person but we had some difficulties, also with uneven surfaces.

Prices for Greenpark are about £15 per night, I would book the flights via http://www.a1travel.com and if you are interested in green park you can email them directly on info@greenparkapparments.com (they will also provide you with a free transfer, a big bonus for your mum)

Alternativley you can email Charlie at Continental Real Estate (British) who will do you a private transfer info@continentalrealestate.com

I would recommend travelling in April/May as the weather will be a little better than October and the prices are still cheap. You will be looking to pay around £130ea for the flights, depending on your departure point, available carriers.

Dont forget your insurance, and if you book a flight do it over the phone to make sure they know of your special requirements.

Regards

Phil & Marcus

Where the Sunrise hotel is located, i would say its practically flat area, its on the beach so getting down there for the bars and restaurants shouldnt be a problem and it looks absolutely beautiful.

Thank you so much for all of your replies. This has really helped. I think what I need to do is go to Marmaris and really have a good look around. What comes naturally to able bodied people can be huge obstacles to wheelchair users. It's excuse for another holiday in Marmaris really!!!!

hiya tis em again
just got back from marmaris and have been yakking on about it to my family, Anyhow this is the problem i have now got. my mam who is disabled with arthritis(sp) wants to go abroad. & because we have ranted about marmaris we are thinking of taking her there. The only problem is A: the flight what if she needs the loo(sorry got to ask) there is no way two of us can get in them cubicles with out my mums bum showing to the whole plane (not a nice sight ha ha) anything we can do? they don't do disabled loo's do they? B: does anybody know of any decent hotels that aren't going to break my mam & sisters bank before even getting there that are disabled accessible. I've looked @ 1 or 2 but these are verging on nearly 600.00 for 2 wk each. & with mam knowing we only paid 180.00 each for our hol this year it doesn't really seem to be fair on her & ours was booked in May so it wasn't last minute. She doesn't mind about noise E.G on the beach front as even though she is 71 & in a wheel chair she could put me to shame.
Any help really would be gratefully appreciated

This might be a difficult one for users to answer, Best bet is to email all the companys about the Disabled facilities at Hotels etc, You will easily get 2 people in the Toilete on the plane, But remember and come out and stand at the door for your poor Mother, It's not much but hope this helps you out.

a few of the places in the posts above mine seem to be ok i will have to have alook. I did notice that on the beach front & almost anywhere really the restraunts & that all seem to be on level ground so getting her into most places really wont be a problem. It's still the plane that bothers me as she totally wheelchair bound so the full chair has to go into the bathroom with her. I'm sure we will get her sorted but thanks for your help & ideas, after all we have a year! :)
