Basically its taKe the Autopista or N340 as far as San Pedro then take the Ronda road from there.
Log on to http://www.viamichelin.com enter Aeropuerto malaga as your start point and enter Plaza major Ronda as your destination for detailed instructions and map.

Hi Jim,

I've just come back from Ronda, having spent 4 nights there. There are two ways to go, but I wouldn't recommend the route via San Pedro, as the road up from there is very steep and a bit hairy at times.

Follow the other route (the A369 from Malaga to Ronda via the Campillos road) and you should be there in under an hour.

Once there you will know it was worth the effort. Everything about the place is stunning.

Hi Jim,

there are a lot of places worth seeing in Ronda and it would be worthwhile buying a small guidebook with a map inside, preferably a map which identifies the main monuments and buildings.

The bullring is well worth a visit, as it is the oldest in Spain and has a museum inside. I'm not into bullfighting personally, but it is still interesting to visit.

In the house of the Moorish King there is a mine which takes you down to the bottom of the gorge. The climb is not as bad as you might think, looking down into the gorge and, as long as noone in your group has any serious physical problems, the climb down in worth the effort.

Further down the road from the House of the Moorish King are the arab baths. It's only about 2 Euros to get in and is very intersting.

While down at the baths you can visit two older bridges which cross the gorge. They are the Arab Bridge and the Bridge of San Miguel.

Up by the Plaza Duquesa de Parcent there are several buildings worht seeing. In particular, I would suggest going into the Church of Our Lady of Incarnation. It didn't look much to me from the outside, so I was astounded by the enormity of it when I went in. I'm not a religious person at all, but the work that must have gone into building this has to be seen to be believed.

In the same square you can also see the City Hall and the Convent of St Isobel. The suare is a nice place to take a rest and enjoy some food, wine ,beer or whatever you prefer. There are a couple of decent cafe bars there where you can sit outside and enjoy the sun and the surroundings.

Walking back toward the new bridge from this square, you should take the Calle Mondragon. Along this relatively short street you will find Mondragon Palace and also the House of Saint John Bosco. Both are worth a visit, and both have great views out over the Tajo.

The most important and outstanding tourist attaraction has to be the new bridge, though it would be alomost impossible to avoid, as it joins the two halves of Ronda. Once again, if you are feeling fit, you can climb down a path, not far from Mondragon Palace, which will give you great views of the gorge and the bridge.

There is much more to see, but it all depends on how much time you want to spend walking around. To be honest, we spent most of our fours days there walking along the routes suggested by our guidebook.

There are several good restaurants worth eating in, some with spectacular views of the gorge anf the bridge, but don't expect much in the way of nightlife unless you are there over the weekend. You will be hard pushed to find a bar open anywhere by 11:30pm during the week, and even hotel bars close by midnight for residents.

Where will you be staying in Ronda during your visit? If I can offer any other information, please feel free to ask.

JJ,

Thanks very much for that. We will certainly be spending our time walking as you did as that's our main priority when on holiday and it sounds like there's more than enough to see in 3 days.
We're staying at Enfrente Arte, do you know it?
By the way is the A639 clearly signposted from Malaga airport?
