do men have to wear trousers in hotels to eat.

Unless you want to have dinner in your y-fronts, then no.

Depends on the hotel, but normally there's no dresscode for dinner. Jeans and t-shirt is perfectly acceptable in most hotels.

I wore long shorts (knee lenght) and a short sleve shirt every night with no problems. It was too warm for trousers...

I like to travel in zip-off trousers, convert them to shorts on the transfer coach - and only put long legs back on on the way home. No problem in the restaurants I've been to in Egypt.

Think anyone dressing 'formally' would look totally out of place in Egypt, and look more like the staff :o

The only person dressed for dinner when we were at the Tropicana Grand Oasis this year wasa member of the Egyptian Security Services complete with 9mm side arm

He looked totally out of place

Funny you should say that Gray. We had the same thing happen on a Nile cruise once, but the guy actually removed his pistol from its holster whilst he was eating and placed it in full view on the table! It was quite amusing to watch how everyone gave his table a very wide berth as they passed. What was disturbing was that he had his two kids with him who cant have been more than four or five years old.

This Egyptian was the least scary of the lot around as whilst we were there there was a BIG conference TB and GB were there too

98% of the road workers were armed with AK47's 9mm Brownings and H&K semis

wierdest thing was Never felt safer and we were regarded with diginity as we went to the shops for My cigars
