I'm actually feeling quite happy again now.

Got back from Napa 3 weeks ago today and after a great holiday had a few upsets. Computer blew up taking everything with it including loads of photo's it hadn't let me put on to cd before we went away and everything else including all my contacts(email addresses, docs etc). Mother in law was mugged last week & generally I've been feelin pretty yuk. Anyway back to work in a week and the extra hours they've given me are the reason we can afford to go back to the Alex.

By the way Nathan has just asked me when I'm going to book the holiday so I've told him. He's well pleased. :)

Hi Mandy

If it's still available, we're going to book the Alex for our holiday at the end of October. I'll post a review when I get back, but judging by what I've already read, it sounds a fab hotel.

Hi Mandy :D We had a great time at the Alexander Easter just gone. We booked with Portland as it was the cheapest we could find.We paid about 1700 for B&B in a seaview room with them and were allocated one of the Cabanas . This was just for me & hubby for two weeks.Just checked for next Easter with Portland and it's about the same price as it's got £100 pound off if booked online .
Sorry you've had some troubles, but looking forward to Paphos and The Alexander should cheer you up I hope .

Hi U2fan

If you do go to the Alex let me know all about it when you get back.

Hi Serena

We've booked through Portland. It's cost just over £2300 that's for 2 adults and a child in a standard room. It was just slightly cheaper than Argo and it's a Monday flight which gives me an extra day to get packed etc as I only finish work the Friday before. 8)

Any info on bars, restaurants etc would be great. As it's over 11 years since our last and only visit I can't remember much about places we ate and drank. Just remember a Chinese on the left had side going towards the Harbour where we saw "Jack Duckworth" who was staying at the Annabel at the time and we also ate a couple of time's in a traditional restaurant on a side street not far from the Alex where the Waiter used to balance a table on his head I think!!!! :?:

Hi Mandy, sorry I cant be much help with restaurants as we ate in the hotel most nights as I had a bad knee at the time and found it easier . The entertainment in the hotel was quite good there was usually a pianist or duo in the restaurant and then other entertainers in the bar. The restaurant did theme nights and the entertainment was sometimes apropriate to that IE> belly dancers etc . There was a bar just further up past the Aloe hotel that had entertainment on most nights too, but you had to be in early to get a seat, there was a restaurant opposite it, I think it was French cuisine , never tried it but it looked quite good. We had a great time, all the staff in the hotel were friendly and so were the other guests ,in fact it's the most friendly hotel I have stayed in .

Congrats! We stayed at the Aloe 8 years back and in a villa this time as it was far cheaper and we had our own pool and fantastic facilities. The Alex has a good position for the evenings. A lot has changed in our 8 years so you may feel the same. Its still the quieter place to be but the timeshare touts have found it, SODAP has closed and there are rumours of building to go into the space there(may be considered an improvement actually!), there is a big area of pubs and club like places on the right as you walk into town, and Woolies is now Debenhams! Our fave eating places are all out of town so I can't recommend anywhere particularly, except the Place Royale for breakfast at CYP 1.60 (but I don't suppose you will be looking for any more breakfast). Apart from those changes we found everywhere to be pretty much the same and laid back.

We returned from a week's holiday at the Alex last night. Despite having dreadful weather for the majority of the week (), we had a fantastic holiday. The hotel is wonderful. I'll post a review as soon as I've finished my unpacking!

p.s. the weather's supposed to be getting better from tomorrow onwards according to the hotel's weather chart! Lucky you... :D
