Hurghada and El Gouna are both "windy" resorts - the wind heads out to the Red Sea from the Siena Mountains and there is a prevailing northerly wind pretty much year-round with the occasional sandstorms thrown in for good measure. Calm days are in the minority and spread out throughout the year. June is one of the "quieter" periods, February possibly the worse month.
The advantage of the wind is that it does take the edge off the summer temperatures (got to 38 last week!) which will be in the mid 30's probably in June. The resort is geared up to the prevailing conditions and wind-breaks are standard on beaches and lagoons and pools are in sheltered places too. It also makes El Gouna a world renowned location for kite-boarding and it is common to see international teams "in training" at the resort!!!
Scuba diving is VERY addictive!!! Sounds as if your OH will be looking to take an Open Water course which will take approx 4 days unless she does what is known as a "referral" where the book work (of which there is quite a lot!) and confined water (pool) dives are completed in the UK first and then she is free to complete the open water element in the beautiful Red Sea without giving up a proportion of her holiday time to studying!!. From personal experience I can highly recommend the DiveTribe
http://www.divetribe.com/home.asp who are based at the Movenpick (but will pick you up from any hotel or apartment in El Gouna) - but there are plenty of dive schools to choose from in resort. Like Hurghada there is no shorediving from Gouna, the boat leaves at 9am returning between 4 and 5pm depending on dive sites visited.
