Hello i am thinking of going to Thailand this Jan for a couple of weeks, we're Goa regulars and just fancy a change this year.
Ive seen a few good deals for Phuket, but ive also heard some stories about it being a 'seedy' resort.
I just want a relaxing couple of weeks on the beach, but i also want to soak up the local culture and go on a few trips.
I forgot to add, the deals ive seen are 2star hotels, i dont know exactly which it is, id have to ring and find out.
our budget is quite low, we always pay less than 400 each to go to Goa, so im not expecting to pay much more than that.
I would definitely find out where your hotel is. Where did you find that deal- as I do think if it was around £400 it is awfully cheap!
It was about 480
what dates is that for? I have a feeling £480 each will become a lot more when they "add on" all the supplements!
Its for departing around the 20th Jan.
perhaps members here can help with ideas for cheap flights. At the moment I can't find a flight cheaper than £650!! But I can find flights to Bangkok for £430. Combine that with Hua Hin- minibus transfer- and you would have a good holiday!
If you can get a cheap flight to Bangkok then its easy enough to get a cheap flight to Phuket with the likes of airasia
Phuket is a large island with a number of resorts, so its easy to get away from the sleazy element which is mostly centred around the resort of Patong.
Thomson do have very good deals at the moment for thailand- they are offering cheap deals for about 500.00 to Phuket and Khao Lak , obviously they use their own charter and need to fill the unsold seats.
The thing thats worrying me is the prices seem too good to be true.
Im taking my little boy who will be nearly 4 so i dont really want to be taking him to anywhere thats dodgy
Have a look at what Thomsons offer. I agree those are great prices! Do not go for unnamed accomodation. Tell us what they are offering and I'm sure someone can advise.
Thanks Fiona, but ive had a think about it, and i think id feel better if i went back to Goa.
When you say dodgy Yummymummy what is it thats worrying you...is it the hotel standards or concerns about particular resorts. Phuket has some excellent hotels in all price brackets...the standards being better then what I'd expect to get in Europe for the same star rating. I've stayed in two to five star properties in Thailand and never been dissapointed.
Its the bit about particular resorts being 'seedy'. Im on a budget so i cant really afford to pick out a hotel where i know its not in a dodgy location.
Nicola
you are not wasting anyone's time. That is why we have these forums- to help with research. When I decide upon my next holiday I have posted umpteen queries for places all around the world!!
hmm, i know i havent made a mistake, Ill definetly be trying Thailand in the near future
I spent last christmas in Goa for 3 weeks, staying in Candolim and Calangute, have decided to go to Thailand this year and have been told by many (that have been to both places) that once we have been to Thailand we wont look back.....
Friends of ours take their children to Thailand and are not ones that would expose them to the "seedier" side.
Also pleased about No Visas after last years hassle!!
