They have been very cunning with their pricing structure and a lot of the long stayers are complaining about it. You pay 3000 to use the weights equip for three months, 5000 for six months. If you want to use cardio equipment there's a seperate price for that, but If you want to use both (as most people would), it's a different pricing structure altogether and quite expensive. They also have the option to pay 300 per session to use everything (I think).
I have to say that the gym is very well kitted out, all equipment is new and from what I've seen it was very clean.
Chilly, the New Gym is called Fitness Plus and is behind Spitfire Pub in Calangute on the main Calangute - Arpora Road.

I agree, that is a bit steep for Goa! Maybe I'm in the wrong business! Thanks for the info GFF, I guess I'll just have to check it out once I'm there and decide if it will be worth me joining (especially considering how many Romanovs I'll be consuming!). 19 sleeps to go!
I can recall visiting the gym at HBR last year and that was also expensive by goa prices for non residents

That sounds good chilly but it's just a shame it's not nearer to Candolim. It will be hard enough to get myself into a gym that was on my doorstep, never mind any further than that!
a simple 20 minute run along the beach, then swim back does me! ,as long as i havent had too many kings the night before
You seem to have the lowdown on this gym in Calangute, I dont suppose you would know the cost for 6 weeks membership.
I'm staying for that length of time over Xmas and New Year not far from Little Italy. What distance would that be from the gym.
Regards........Barney
Not ideal I know - but what about taking some of those resistance bands in your suitcase? An early morning jog/swim ( and a stick for the dogs! ) for stamina/cardio and then use the bands in your room?

careful...a friend fell off one of those balls last week...and I had to go with her in the ambulance!!!!

It'll probably take about 12mins in a taxi to get to the Gym from Little Italy. I Don't think they offer a six week mebership but if you speak to Sandesh the owner - (lovely guy) he might sort something out for you, after all business is business. Sandesh owns the bike repair place next to Spitfire so if he's not in the Gym he'll probably be in there.
Miss Chief there's a gym at the Calangute Panchyat that has recently opened and the old one in the Calangute Market is still there. The only problem that I would have in using either of these is that they tend to get packed out with local men........no girls, I think there'd be too much testosterone flying about for a lady on her own to cope with!!
I'm pretty sure that theres a (local) gym next to Candolim Football pitch also.

Thanks for all the info, you're a fountain of knowledge! That's the concern I had about using the "local" gyms, don't really fancy getting stared at...
Will have a look at the new place or may well stick to swimming and walks along the beach.
Thanks again.
Miss Chief. Try the gym at the Holiday Beach Resort in Candolim. Very nice small Gym, air conditioned, open to non residents but not cheap by goa prices, prabably about 3 to 4 pound a time. You will be made welcome. Its not a MAN gym.
Thanks for that all saints. Hadn't even realised there was a gym at the HBR until it was mentioned on this thread! It's certainly more local to where I'll be staying too so I might give it a whirl. It just can't come quick enough now, can't wait to get away from this cold weather...
