hi

I just wanted to come on here and warn everyone off going to the Perran Sands resort.

I took my wife and my baby in early september this year and we stayed in a chalet that was described as 'modern' , 'cotemperary' and to a 'high standard'. The reality was a dirty, mouldy, smelly 1950's 'bunker' that we refused to stay one night in (i have photos if i can work out how to post them).

we were offered alternative accomodation in a bronze caravan in an overcrowded corner of the park but we refused it for being too small and not up to what we originally booked.

The customer care people on site did not seem to care less and refused to even admit there was a problem. We visited the town (not great) and beach (really nice) for a few hours before heading home again.

we've been trying to get our money back ever since though writing to the head office and through our credit card, but with no joy.

I can't beleive the attitude of these places, this poor standard would never be tolerated in other countries but we Brits seem to put up with it - I just wish more people would complain instead of mumbling under thier breath whilst handing over the money.

well i'm taking the family abroad next year whatever the cost and i won't be holidaying in this country again.

Hi

Has anyone been to this park? I have booked for my husband, myself and our 3 year old son for 4 days in May. Everyone we have spoken to have said they had a great time at Haven. I was unsur regarding the standard of accomodation so I have booked a gold caravan. Is the frood good? This park has a chinease restaurant too, I thought it sounded quite nice!

I would be grateful for any reviews

thanks

I've just come back from Reighton Sands where we spent the Easter break.
I was very fortunate that I had booked a caravan from a private owner and we were delighted with our accommodation.

I used to have my own caravan over 20 years ago-and we went from February to October and anyone thinking of hiring a van before June or after August-if it doesn't have heating in the bedrooms-then don't do it.

Ours had lovely modern electric fire in the lounge and heaters in the bedrooms.

This caravan was new and really lovely and more than made up for what the site lacked.

Main problems

1 the shop was understocked and expensive. There were two food aisles and about 6 tat aisles for asite that housed at least a 1000 vans, plus tents and tourers. Center Parcs should show them how to run a supermarket

2 road to beach-very steep and rocky at the bottom. Was a tractor/train

3 some parts of the park were very overcrowded-not what you want when hoping to get away from it all

4 showbar was not big enough for the amount of people was a smoky, sweaty, noisy unpleasant experience with not enough seats. Not everyone goes with kids-would have been nice to have an entertainment room for adults.

5 prize bingo-huge rip off. Lasted 5 minutes-prizes cheap toys and sweets-is this adult entertainment?
Shame on them.

6 swimming pool open for only a short time per day 10am till lunchtime-2pm till 6pm-again Center Parcs-show them how to run a pool.

7 traffic-at the least they should implement a one way system-I felt we were in the middle of a roundabout.

The weather was great, I had taken most of our own food, caravan fantastic.

Had I rented a grotty caravan from Haven, weather awful and needed to rely on expensive shop for food and pitiful entertainment-I think I would have felt suicidal.

If you are thinking of going-only rent from a private owner.

In all fairness site was clean and well planted-didn't use any public toilets.
so cannot comment.

If you just want to use it as a base to explore then you should be fine.

Otherwise go to Center Parcs.

Hi
I would agree with renting from owners (not just because we are owners) because the vans are far better equiped, looked after & cared for by people who stay in them.
If anyone wishes to stay in an owner van wether on the site where i am situated or elsewhere i know of quite a few other owners around the UK who can accomodate.
Its proven how people wish to book owner vans just by the bookings ive taken in this first year of letting out.
I'm virtually fully booked throughout the 2007 season & have been since February/March this year.
Not wishing to keep ranting on about owner vans but we put in our vans everything you wish for in your own home.
Heres to everyone enjoying a good holiday break this coming season !!

We've stayed at British Holidays/Haven sites 7 or 8 times over the years and, apart from the first time, we've always booked with private caravan owners (from sunday papers/internet) because of the reasons above but also because we've saved a lot of money on the brochure price. I would love to have booked with an owner this time too (going this weekend) but, amazingly, Haven's prices worked out cheaper, bearing in mind the cost of the entertainment passes. Whats going on there then?

They seem to be doing some loss leaders at present on certain sites !! whereas we cannot buy the passes for our customers at the price they are selling bog standard vans for (you get what you pay for) no heating etc..in very basic vans hoping you will demand an upgrade once you arrive onsite.
The vans you will hopefully be upgraded into are the ones where owners let to the site for the season/part of & will then find theyve got zero payment due back from the site once commission is deducted !!
Whenever i go away on holiday i expect a decent level of comfort wherever i go, else i would rather stay at home.

We (hubby, me and two children (then 8 and 3) visited Seashore Haven Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth just over two years ago and found this site extremely disappointing.

Great Yarmouth is really a lovely town, but the part of the beach just a short walk across the road from the actual park was filthy - fag ends, bottles, crisp papers etc. The beach is a lot nicer and cleaner in the actual town.

We paid well over the odds for a Rory caravan, bedding was ripped and stained, and toilet was stained with the obvious from the previous visitors and had obviously been missed by the cleaners before our arrival. Fridge freezer had been turned off resulting in a nice puddle on floor.

Food is expensive on site and if you like eating chips with burgers, chips with sausage, chips with chips (you get the idea) you'll be fine.

If you're travelling by car you'd be better off going to the local Tesco and do a little shop for essentials, you'll save a small fortune.

Pool was small, cold and full of hair, not a lot to do in the day apart from your children wanting to spend all your money on grabber machines, entertainment at night wasn't varied enough either, bingo and a band in one bar or Rory and co doing the same stuff until 9pm at night in another.

All the children loved this but by the time 'adult' entertainment came on, our children became tired and so had to leave. I think it would have been better if Rory and co had finished earlier each night say 8pm so parents could at least have some kind of 'night out' whilst on holiday. It can get a bit tedious watching and listening to the same character songs and routines night after night.

Overall the Park is very over hyped in the glossy brochures, very disappointed and as this was our first visit to a Haven park the experience has actually put us off staying in Haven caravan parks for life.

I must add the only reason we booked Seashore was because it had a beach closer to it than the Vauxhall Holiday Park also in Gt Yarmouth, but I wish I would have stayed there instead, don't be put off by Vauxhall's distance like I was actually only 10-15 minutes' walk away from town centre and closer to the nicer part of the beach.

well if I had had to pay for our pass I would have been most disappointed. We didn't use the pool-mainly because the times it actually opened were the times you wanted to be out and about.
The rest was food bars, money grabbing machines and a sweatbox of a showbar.

Hardly an entertainment mecca.

has anyone visited vauxhall caravan park in great yarmouth this year?

Yes-went at Easter!
We hadn't been for 4 years and it was just as good as then-infact better!lLoads for the kids to do-we ate on site in the new pub they have there as it was very good value and pleasant!
Stayed in a kestrel caravan which was excellent!
If you want to ask anything else, feel free! :D

We have just been at Easter also, would recommend the place to anyone. You cannot fault it. In all the years I have been visiting I have never experienced some of horror stories I have read on here at Vauxhall. The other holiday parks in the area do not even compare to the cleanliness & the facilities you will find there.

:? hi i was just wondering if anyone has stayed at havens burnham on sea park ?
we like the look of it and would like some input from previous visitors.
we also would like to know if anyone has ever stayed in the gold lakeside caravans they have there,
they look lovely with the verandas but are they really as good as haven say !!??
also if there are any private owners out there let me know !! :D

I will ask on some forums i use to see if any of the owners are on this site & also if they let out.
Owners vans are normally always better equiped than fleet vans.

Hi Sarebear

I had to reply to question about Burnham on sea. Me, my wife and our 3 year old went last year and loved the place. It is so clean with such friendly staff you will have a great time. The main sea front at Burnham is just out the back of the park and has a lovely beach.
The family must have been to about 10 different haven sites and we both agreed this was the best holiday we had. Hope you have a fantastic time.

thanks for the reply sundialjohn.

Hi, am considering booking Littlesea in Dorset for the Bank Holiday weekend - anyone been? Any info greatfully appreciated!

We went to Warmwel twice, once when it was Haven & once when it became Parkdean. Both times were satisfactory+ .
I'm planning on a couple of short breaks this summer & wondered if anyone could comment on on the Burnham-on-Sea site & the Chichester site please?
My wife has just redeemed her precious Tesco vouchers into Haven vouchers to help fund the holidays, but, having read through some of the reviews on Haven I feel a bit uneasy.
Many thanks.
