Just a remark on the Villas...
(We came back last Friday. although I have bought off plan in La Cala we stayed in La Riveria Playa where some of our family live).
A friend of ours stayed in a villa just on a street in front of the "Hotel Gran Costa Del Sol"...(think that was the name of it) ..It was huge and had it's own pool and 5 bedrooms...Very Spanish feel to it with large grounds and garage...It cost them £1k per week. There was an estate agent on one of the corners going down to the beach who had some interesting re-sale properties available in La Cala.
We found parking dififcult too...and although I love the place it did have a certain more "British" feel to it.

Where is your "off plan" place?
There seems so much being built still although the market is said to be slowing down a lot at the moment. The Mail on sunday yesterday had a very interesting supplement about buying and living in Spain.
With so many posts about La Cala we may end up rivalling the Benalmadena mafia, we'll all have to meet up in Jacks one night.
Our apartment is on the new complex behind the market where all the big cranes are....Our bit is called Jardines de la Noria, but won't be ready until 06...(although the footings are in) ...
Yep we went to Jacks to watch the footy...All the bars were packed during The Ryder Cup too, not a seat to be had in Biddy Mulligans.

Jacks on a karaoke friday is a laugh, mainly expat locals and there are some very talented kids who can really sing. Same crowd go to Fools at Calahonda to sing there too.
I bet you cannot wait until your place is finished, I remember being at the same stage, although our urbanisation is very small in comparison. The time will fly by and it is fascinating to come over regularly to see it getting closer and closer to being finished. Are Jardines the ones on the hill or at ground level?
Best of luck

We thought it had better rentability being on the "flat", it also has 2 car parking spaces.
What sold it for us is that the balcony is on a corner and is 111 sq mtrs (bigger than the apartment)!!!!....We currently are busily saving up to buy furnishings....
However my niece lives in La Riveria and is an interior designer she is brill @ bagging bargains too :D.
We spent some time @ Max Beach and the Funky Monkey (La Riveria) when we were there a fortnight ago which both had good entertainment and Max Beach did great food. On Friday nights we went to Oscars Bar in Calahonda for Karaoke Night where many ex-pats meet up....
We have not been to mainland Spain that often. Tenerife has always been our haunt!...However even though it is a bit more pricey you are not confined to an island and the flight is a " breeze". We will still go to Tenerife as well and if we eventually end up retiring out there it is only a 2 hour flight away anyhow

There are 5 of us travelling out to La Cala next week, and it appears to have grown a fair bit since hubby & I were there last. Does anyone know where I can obtain a street map and a list of local restaurants and bars.

For a map, http://www.multimap.com goes down to street level.
Have a great time.

What would a taxi cost between Granada and La Cala, otherwise I could hire a car, but how long would it take to drive, and what is the journey like?
Cheapskate Stephen!
The mileages given below are as the crow flies so methinks it would not be cost effective to fly to Ganada then a taxi to La Cala de Mijas:-
It's exactly 100 miles by road from Granada to La Cala. That £100 "saving" you speak of would be much better spent flying to Malaga. Just back from La Cala area this afternoon. Looking wonderful!
We are thinking about going to La Cala De Mijas July 2006 - family. Can anyone recommend apartments with sea view and pool? Does anyone know anything about Torre Oceano apartments, Arruzafa II, Pueblo Adnaluz, Royal Beach....Is there a busy road running through the area...is there a good selection of restaurants - we don't plan to hire a car. Any info appreciated.
Welcome to the forums s-lynas ... I have merged your enquiry with this existing 2 page topic so that in addition to any replies you might receive, you will also find some information in earlier posts.
Hope Im not to late to join in this post, as Ive just joined.
I have a holiday home in La Cala, and would recommend it to most. The only type who might find it not so appealing are the 18-25 year olds.
Annmon.
Your apartments in La Noria, look lovely. I just hope that you are not next to the 7th fairway. If you are I am sorry about my golf ball landing on your terrace. And you are so right about Max Beach. It has the biggest buzz along the coast. Try the jacuzzi at lunch time, with a cold beer.
big chiv.
Jardines La Noria, are right next to the La Noria golf course, directly behind the new market place. I think you might be thinking of Jardine Botanico, they are up the hill, behind the small parade of shops/bars at KM200.
I couldnt agree more about Biddys. Dont go there myself unless I have an urge for the Black stuff.
As for La Cala in general, it has a wide variety of bars and restaraunts that cater for most tastes. If you like the pure 5 star service, go to El Oceano, or the Mijas Playa. They are well advertised. If steak and chips is your thing, then El Gusto or Bar grill, are very good. For truly international food try El Travatorre (the best pasta) or El Patio, are also top quality. And if egg and chips is your thing then Snack Attack, which is just the other side of the A7/N340 is a must. Ask for Clair. She is lovley.
And finally.
Villas on the beach side of the "road" do come up for sale every now and again, but you have to know an agent and be ready to act quick, if you want one.
To me, La Cala de Mijas is still a little bit of Spain tucked away, next to a good motorway. i.e. If you want the bright lights of town, its very close.
Kind regards.

Glad you have resurrected "this old thread" (well my bit of it anyway), it was over a year ago since I lasted posted about Jardines de la Noria and the time has flown by.
We last visited in August of this year but my niece has kept me posted on the building progress. She also said that the apartments look lovely, we hope to pop over early May to have a peek.
I have been keeping an eye on the, "owners and ex-pats abroad thread" but have not come across anyone who has bought on this complex yet.
Whereabouts in La Cala are you?
You will be a great asset on here knowing the area so well.
Oh and no probs re: your golf balls our apartment is on the opposite side close to the new access road
( Also please forgive me if I don't reply speedily as we are off to Tenerife on Friday)
Merry Christmas to you and everyone.
Best wishes
Ann

There has been one for sale in La Cala itself for about a year now. It is a 3 bed, 2 bath semi detached with its own small swimming pool.
Only problem is that it backs onto the motorway, and is overpriced.
There are currently plenty of town houses in La Cala for sale.
We moved here in September this year, and love it.

Since then the wife and I have moved to Mijas Pueblo and will be opening a B&B in the spring next year.
We miss La Cala but couldn't stand living on an urbanisation where your neighbours have so much influence over how you want to live your life. We were robbed whilst we were inside the house and our lovely neighbours objected to us putting up a security grill that meant we could leave a window open when we wanted to, without having to do a full security check when moving from room to room. Their objection was that the look of the urbanisation was totally ruined by one window grill, a view not held by the administrator but sadly the neighbour was also the vice president of the community even though he only spends 4 months a year here.
I am situated in the Jardin Botanico urb. There is still quite a bit of building going on, but I have heard that the Mayor has put a stop to anything else being started.
Last summer we could see 21 tower cranes from both of our terraces. That has come down to 18 when we were there in October, so It seems to be slowing down.
Merry Xmas
Lollys mate
Can anybody provide any suggestions as I am finding it hard to track down through the holiday rental websites.
