Had to laugh, my German colleague who works with me here in Germany was in Birmingham at the weekend. He and his friend visited the German xmas market there. They couldn't believe what they saw - loads of goods that are sourced from Aldi (cheap down market superkarket) being sold for crazy prices, around 4-5 times their original cost.
What's even more funny was the queues of people buying it all.
Also, bratwurst for £2.50 when in Duesseldorf (3-4th most expensive city in Germany) it costs €2 - almost double.
Those German stall holders must be rubbing their hands with utter joy
Exactly the same thing happening in Manchester at the moment.Although I didn't see too many Germans on the German markets, all the stall holders seemed to be English!!Are they really Germans ?
Its the same here in Sunderland.I buy a whole stollen cake for £1.49 in Lidl and on the Christmas market the same cake is £2.50 per slice!Aldi and Lidl are not "cheap downmarket supermarkets " but value for money German owned shops. In Germany they are not considered cheap.
